Here are the rules I'll be using for the December Doubles. I'd prefer discussion of the rules to take place in a separate thread. I'd like to make it clear though that this isn't really a discussion document and although I'll listen to suggestions it is unlikely that I will change anything unless I've missed out something important.
Doubles Tournament Composition Rules
Each player should submit an army list of no more than 750 pts to meet the composition requirements listed below. Armies must be from one of the official army books currently in print – note the Skaven book used will be the one due to be released on 7th Nov 09.
1 – Your army must include at least one Hero level character capable of leading it.
2 – Your army must be composed to meet the following requirements:
Hero 1 or 2 *
Core: 1+
Special / Rare: 0-2
Rare: 0-1
So, if you take a Rare selection you are limited to no more than 1 Special selection.
* Yes, this means that a combined army could have 4 characters – this is allowed.
3 – No special characters
Army specific restrictions / notes
Beasts of Chaos: Marked Chariots count as Special selections
Bretonnia: Are not required to take a BSB, but if they do so then they count as the second Hero choice.
Dark Elves: Shades are limited a maximum of 10 models
Dwarfs: Will contribute an additional dispel dice (as opposed to the usual two)
Empire: None
High Elves: May take two of their Rare selections as a single Rare choice. Special choices count as per normal
Lizardmen: None
Ogre Kingdoms: May be led by a Butcher if they have only 1 Hero level character.
Orcs & Goblins: None
Skaven: TBA once the book has been released
Tomb Kings: A Liche Priest may be taken as their sole Character. A Tomb Prince may act as the Hierophant if no Liche Priest is taken.
Vampire Counts: None
Wood Elves: Do not get a “free” wood to deploy.
General Notes:
Pairings will be done at random, although every effort will be made to avoid armies from the same race being allied together.
At the start of each game each team will randomly determine which of their two armies will provide the General for the forthcoming battle. If the selected army has two potential Generals then their owner decides which will serve for that particular battle.
Should a Vampire Counts or Tomb Kings army be playing and one of their Heroes is not the General then they must nominate one of their Heroes to count as their General/Hierophant for crumbling purposes (only).
Allied armies will receive no penalty for being mistrustful allies.
Beasts of Chaos units capable of Ambushing may ambush if their force is led by a Hero with the ambush special rule even if their army is not providing the General in the current game.
Magic Clarifications
Dwarven armies will provide 1 additional dispel dice per turn not the usual two.
The two pool power dice may be used by either army. If the players cannot agree then the current “General” decides.
Power dice generated via item (i.e. Banner of Sorcery) or stored via item (i.e. Black Periapt) may only be used by the army that stored them.
