It's official finally. The LOTOW campaign has now kicked off to a roaring of sixgun and vicious hand-to-hand battles. We had a good duking out among us, on average we did 2-3 games each. The contestants so far are:
Ove- Playing Hex's Harrowers (Outlaws) Stephen- Irish mob (Outlaws) Dave Wilkins- Playing Mexican Bandidos (Outlaws) Mike- Playing Cowboys Joe- Playing Lawmen
Any other participants are welcome, John is in, playing Lawmen, but hasn't played yet. Each player is free to play as many games as they like (ideally 2-3) before each Chapter ending. We're aiming at having the Chapters on Long Sundays, and allow players the time to play a scenario or two in between when they have time. Just let us know if you're interested.

It was a very enjoyable beggining, despite ending with a complete catastrophe for me meaning that I've had to start from stratch again.

Things didn't go well for the fuzz of ye Olde West? Well I won a close battle against Steve to begin with. However we both took a lot of casualities and I rolled very badly for my injured men. One deputy was killed as well as a vigilante and an upstanding citizen. I had enough money to buy back a deputy but that was that. My Sheriff also had to miss the next game due to being horribly horribly injured. I then, predictably, lost very quickly to Mike's Cowboy's and suffered minimal losses (due to my advanced "run away very quickly" technique.) Then, with my Sheriff back on side, I faced off against Ove's dastardly Outlaws. It was a pretty tight game, but Ove won in the end. However, due to more disastrous rolling post-game both my sheriff and deputies all died (well technically, due to me rolling 31 twice, one of the deputies became blind in both eyes). So I decided, as there were no objections, to disband my posse and start all over again.

Ouch. Was it just incredible dice on your part or are really bad injury results quite common?

For hero's you've got a 1 in 3 chance of nothing happening, about a 1 in 6 chance of getting something potentially positive happen to you, a 1 in 6 chance of getting killed or horribly crippled (multiple rolls on the table), the other 12 rolls vary between minor reductions in your abilities.
So it's not generally that bad for hero's. The chances of your fighter being completed killed or permenantly put out of action are fairly small. Plus if you are injured you can try and find and pay a doctor to fix up some of your injuries, allowing you to remove them.
Henchmen have a 1 in 3 chance of death if taken out of action.
So while it's not catastrophic to get taken out of action it's something that you want to try as much as possible. If you are getting really shot to pieces, it's probably better to volunterily fail the head for the hills check, rather than risk taking even more damage.

Ouch. Was it just incredible dice on your part or are really bad injury results quite common? What Steve said As an example, in the last battle where I had 4 units taken out of action and Ove had 3. All of Ove's survived and 1 of mine did, the other 3 who died being my Sheriff and 2 Deputies. I perhaps could have not been so aggressive and so not had so many units taken out of action in the first place. But even so there's no accounting for those sort of dice IMO.

I do have to admit that my Outlaws led a charmed life from start to finish. I can only sum it up in these memories, Steve's Irish Mob had three or four Jammed results in a row. And in a fight between two of Joe's Lawdogs and two of my Outlaws, all four of them were Fanning, Joe got absolutely no hits on 2x6 D6! I think I also totally missed with one. Lot of lead but no cigars!
At the end of the day, thank you to all participants. I really enjoyed the games, and am looking forward to the big Chapter battle on next Long Sunday September.
