I'd be up for that! That'll help me to decide whether to take the plunge myself or not...

To be honest, when I first saw it in the shop, I thought it was pre-painted . Anyways, you are more than welcome to have a go when I've put it together, the minis look way cool and I am actually looking forward to paint my first "army"!!!.

I received my pre-release copy, containing the exclusive The Survivor figure a couple of days ago and have now assembled the Enforcers and The Plague figures and base coated them. I won't be able to get down to the club until 24/3 but should hopefully have all the figures and terrain painted by then. Some thoughts on the kit follows: - I found it slightly frustrating at times, being not too experienced in model assembly, my minis are almost all cast in one piece. The Enforcers came more or less in one big bag and through trial and error I had to try to find which leg, arm, head fit to X,Y or Z. Didn't help that some of it was very fiddly, ie. hands on guns with itsy bitsy pointy plastic bits that had to be slotted into arms and said arms had to be at an exact angle to the shoulder to fit the assembly... . The Plague was much easier to put together though. -The minis look nice and will hopefully be easy to paint up. One of my favourite models is a Plague monster sitting on a piece of a barricade, very nice piece I am spray painting the minis, painting bits and bobs and will dunk them in Army Painter to get it done quickly - Slightly daunting to see how much terrain bits there are on the sprues with small connectors. But I'm confident that'll be just a small hurdle to get over. - The box was crammed full with stuff, cards, mat, terrain and the rulebook is very nicely made. - I might get some of the Mercenaries for later, especially the Recon Unit... If anyone want to just get a faction (£19.99 on Mantics homepage) I'd be more than happy to supply the rules and the other bits.

The Plague was much easier to put together though. Sounds very similar to my experiences with Mantic's dreadball stuff. A lot of dry fitting components to check I'd got the right arms etc at the right angles before committing to glue! Also some of the teams were much easier to construct that others. Orx were really easy. Veer-myn really quite tricky! I'm taking the slight cop out route and treating dreadball as a board game though ( I don't paint board games...) so am leaving them unpainted for the moment at least Look forward to trying dead zone when I can. I think the first faction I'm going to paint and play in May will be Rebs. Like the variety and the brown coats!

Minor update: The Enforcers are now painted and Army Painter dunked, done up in a very basic desert colour scheme!!! Time: ~1h45min in total Next up is The Plague that I reckon will take longer. Great news Chris and Damon!!! I'm probably not going to buy another faction, as I've already got two, but will definitely buy some of the Mercenaries (Recon Unit is top prio...)

DISASTER STRIKES!!!: Thinking "spray varnish could get this done pretty quickly" so I purchased said product but alas!!! Discovered that every single (12) Enforcer that was painted and ready had received "White Frosting" instead . After some trial and errors on the internet, naming several reasons for the disaster, including high humidity, not shaking the can until arms fall off to it being a Monday and just plain old Sod's Law, I gave up and they are now resting in a Dettol bath, ready to be stripped and re-painted . Don't think I'll ever try that shortcut again!!!

Nightmare!! I've always used spray varnish & not had that problem - Bad Luck!! Up until now I've always used Vallejo varnish and brushed it on, but I've only done individual minis before, usually no more than 5 in one go. This was my first attempt at painting an "Army"!!! I was pretty happy with the base result, but might change the colour scheme now that I have to do it a second time. There is an upside though, I might be able to do Recon Unit Merc as well in that batch, expecting delivery either tomorrow or the day after tomorrow , all is not lost. Considering the short time it took me in total to spray and paint them the first time I might be quicker the second time and should be able to do it in an evening or so!!! The tentative date of 24th is still holding, have painted a few Plagues in the meantime .

You have my sypathy. I have tried several spray varnishes over the years. Over 20 years The Gladiators did a marvellous participation game fr Salute based on the Jason and the Argonauts film. I painted the temple that we had. It was lovely until i used a spray varnish and then it looked like ithad snowed in the middle east! I felt terrible!!!
So, i used a black oil based wash and whilst that didnt get rid f all of the problem, it did elimiate 80% of it. We still, despite this, won Best of Show for this game!
I always get very nervous when ive spent ages on some sort of panzer to crush Peter with! Will the spray work? Will Matt appear as semi Gloss? Sometimes i now dont spray things.
However, i am working on two planes now, and to accomodate the decals i firstly cover the plane in Humbrol gloss varnish, then use Johnsons Klear floor polish to prepare the surface, then used MicroSol to put the decals on, the MicroSet to seal, and then last dry brsh. Then Humbrol Matt varnish - that should do the trick. 1st time ive tried this!

If yo are ever stripping paint from a model, use Oven Cleaner. Its caustic so be careful. Take the model, put it in a plastic bag - watch for holes. Pull the bag inside out so that you are holding the model with a plastic bag covered hand. Then with your other hand spray oven cleaner on. Pull the bag back over your hand so that the model is in the bag. Tie the top. Stick it outside on the patio overnight. If you are indoors put something lioke wood underneath the bag before placing on your prized carpet or table. In the morning, wear gloves and cut the bag away. Run the model under the tap, perhaps using an old toothbrush to remove stubbon bits. That usually results in a cleaned up model and it doesnt damage plastic models. Give that a try!

Thank you all for the support!!! It is really annoying, and to add to the aggravation, one head from an Enforcer has come loose and I can't find it , mailed Mantic to see if they are willing to somehow send me one... (That could be a hilarious post in Beds on Sunday... "Head found in the mail!!!"). BUT if all goes to plan I should at least be able to have the two forces finished for game on the 24th, maybe not the terrain but we'll see. So far it's still "GO", and I've got the Recon Unit too . There are many methods for stripping paint, but as I use acrylics only, Dettol (the brown stuff) works like a charm and is good to plastics as well. Stick them in a jar over night and brush them with an old toothbrush in the morning. Only downside is that it stinks with disinfectant to high heavens . I did read (too little too late though) that if you get frosted models, rubbing them with Olive Oil would get rid of it apparently!!!

Thanks to Matt, Damon and Carl for playing the COMBAT DEBUT of Mantic Games Deadzone!!! Much fun was had by all and I would be more than happy to bring it down to the club in the future and anyone interested in getting themselves a faction (about £20 with card deck) are welcome to join in . I think that another game or two to get more familiar with the rules, but then I am quite keen on playing a short campaign and try that out, if anyone's interested. Due to childcare issues I won't be able to attend until the end of April I believe, so there's some time left. In the meantime, I shall spray paint my terrain as well and maybe, just maybe purchase some new stuff...
