This Monday we return to 1984 era Third World War.
Having failed to halt the Soviet OMG group at the bridge, NATO forces have cobbled together a new force. Sgt Majors have been through all the rear echelon blokes, the shirkers, the dogers and the wounded. They have combed the repair yards for armour - any armour, washed out the blood stains and cobled together a force.
This is a dual nation effort - West germans and British troops moulded together in an hour and put into a hasty defence of the land just outside Hanover. This time NATO must stop the Soviets else there will be panic on the streets of the city.
The Soviets meanwhile continue their drive and they have been reinforced by a platoon of East german mechanised infantry in BMP1s.
So lets see on Monday what happens!

the rear echelon blokes, the shirkers, the dogers and the wounded Would this lot be commanded by a certain Cpt Mainwaring by any chance? So, as long as the glorious Soviet army can avoid LCpl Jones' cold steel we can be driving into Hanover by nightfall.

A Belgian F16 managed to drop a half load of cluster bombs on the column, causing confusion.
It was shot down for its trouble with the pilot being captured and shot. This delay with this nasty recrimination caused a 40 minute delay on the columns progress towards Hanover. This gives NATO longer to prepare the finsal blocking force!
Meanwhile the Frankfurt City Fathers are keen that the fight doesn't make it into the outskirts of the city to avoid a general panic, so there has been no civil warning YET!
We shall see tonight if NATO can stop the column!

Thank you Matt - superb!
Now the game.
It was a draw. NATO stopped the Reds from exiting the board in the time period of the game BUT they failed to destroy all the Soviets.
What this means is that approx 1 platoon of Soviet infantry in BTR70s supported by an SAU-122, a BRDM2 plus a BRDM2 with SA7 launcher have made it through ad have entered the city.
Panic begins.
Are there any NATO forces left to mopp up this force in the streets of Frankfurt?
we shall see in a few weeks when we revisit 1984!

Are there any NATO forces left to mopp up this force in the streets of Frankfurt? Frankfurt?? I thought we were heading for Hannover They must have moved all the signposts around Just the sort of trick the decedent imperialists would pull – merely demonstrates the depths to which they will stoop The sooner we bring the light of International Socialism to the West, the better On a darker note, it is true that the imperialist forces have temporally slowed the righteous advance of the glorious Soviet Army But we shall not be deterred – the brutality of the combined NATO armies shall not stop us We shall free the oppressed workers of Western Europe, whatever the cost

Yes, on Monday 4th May - Bank Holiday Monday we return to our WW3 game.
In brief its 1984 and a Soviet OMG punched through NATO lines. Consisting of about 30 tanks, MICV and AA and AT vehicles the group drove straight for Hanover.
NATO tried to stop the force twice, intially inflicting loses on the column from hits from Challanger 1s. BUT the column pushed through and was met again outside the city by rear echelon forces. Again the column pushed on, with heavy losses.
So this Monday the remains of the colum - approx an infantry platoon mounted in BTR60 APCs plus a BRDM scout car and a BRDM AA missle launcher. Perhaps most importatly the Soviets also have a SAU122 - a selfpropelled artillery gun.
What forces will NATO have to throw back the Soviets as they enter the streets of Hanover - we shall see on Monday!
All of course are welcome to play!
Banzai!
