Damon (d**n him!!!), brought down the rules last Monday and I took a real shine to the setting!! Set in Britain in the late 70's-early 80's, with social upheaval, unrest amongst miners, the Welsh trying to break from the English yoke... You could have armed revolutionaries vs government troops, police vs insurgents, navy vs army, bobble hats vs flat caps, anything goes !!!! I have now got my own copy of the rules and ordered some 20mm figures and stuff. Blog for the game: winterof79.blogspot.co.uk/The Swede.

That's alright, I'm sure we can spot you toys if you want to have a bash. It's basically geared towards more skirmish level (10-30 figures a side with a vehicle or two), so not a massive field battle but urban warfare!

Premier for my forays into 20mm wargaming!!! The police station is a Superquick pre-cut card kit, very reasonably priced (£7.40 or thereabouts) and nice, thick card (1.25mm). Some things I did struggle with (the chimneys were a PITA so had to bodge them in the end), but very happy with it nevertheless. This was a trial kit to see what it was like, and have ordered their row of terraced brick houses fronts and backs as well to make up a street (got both of Evilbay for £13, including P&P!!!) The vehicles are 1/76 diecasts, Ford Cortina, Ford Cortina Police Car, Land Rover and a Bedford Chloride Batteries van. Minis are in the post, a mix of police officers with Sterling SMG's and SLR's, a small group of highly trained and motivated Royal Marines and probably a gaggle of civilians in the near future, below a little fluff regarding my forces ! THE KEMPFORD VIGILANCE ASSOCIATIONWith the political and social landscape in turmoil, a few citizens in Kempford decided that something had to be done, with force of arms if necessary! Officers in the local police force one day declared: "We don't care about your political allegiances or your race, creed or colour. The government has for too long kept us from doing our job proper, namely, seeing that the good citizens are kept safe and sound! Violence and immoral actions are striding through the streets hand in hand, making you, the hardworking, law abiding citizens of Kempford cower in fear behind barred doors! NO MORE we say! WE are determined to keep the rabble off the streets, so you can walk them without fear, leaving your doors unlocked safe in the knowledge that nothing will be amiss AND knowing that the members of the police force, long viewed with mistrust as lackeys of the establishment, are your friends!"

I've finished my first batch of civvies, will bring them along tonight to show you! There are pictures here - My BlogD Very nice!!! I might get some civilians as well at next payday to fill out with 'well-meaning concerned citizens', but might go for some AK toting ones instead . My latest finished stuff: the terraced houses front, police, Royal Marines and Saracen APC done. The terraced houses back and Saladin left to do. Waiting for the road tiles to be despatched. Ove.

We had a game last night with 25 figures per side, the Civvies had 6 man sections - 3 Militia & 1 Trained, while the 5th Border Terriers had 8 man sections - all trained. The scenario was that the Terriers were on their way back from a day on the ranges when the last lorry in the convoy broke down - the rest of the convoy carried on without noticing! We decided that it would take 8 turns to fix the lorry, at which point the Terriers would have to make their way back to it & drive off. Meanwhile the Welsh Warlords had got wind of this & had sent their boyos out to give the English a kicking - or so they thought! The welsh advanced whole sections out of sight, until the English caught sight of one & opened up with the GPMG - "Stoppage!!" - this pretty much set the scene for the night, you don't realise how many 1's you roll until you are looking at a sea of "reload" tokens!! The English had some great dice rolls for wounds, taking 9 Warriors out, whilst only losing 1 of theirs - the Welsh were hitting them, but only knocking them over rather than hitting them harder - bad luck on the Welsh dice rolls to be honest. The English managed to get the truck started (helped by a couple of short rounds - thanks Joker!!) and away.... For the future - more terrain definitely, it needs to be really dense! I also think I'd randomise the truck restart - maybe start rolling a dice after 6 rounds to see if it gets fixed. As I knew it'd be fixed in turn 8 I'll admit to starting to pull back as that got closer.... Overall though - really good fun, with a lot of potential for some great campaigns & skirmishes.... Apologies for the bad pic - was too busy having fun to take any nice piccies!! D

Rhys's cousin, Jed, is a lance corporal at the Shrewsbury Royal Corps of Transport TA Depot & has managed to get hold of a bedford full of army Diesel!
He's arranged to meet the "Bala Boys" in a field just outside Llangollen & they'll pay handsomely for it!
After a quiet trip along the A5, he pulls into the field at the edge of the copse & a shadowy group of figures surround him.....
Once his heart stops thumping, Jed realises it's Owen & the boys and while they're lowering the tailgate begins the haggling with Owen.
"STOP WHERE YOU ARE, YOU'RE UNDER ARREST" Figures appear around the edge of the field!
It's Plod!! Somehow they've got wind of this & have set up an ambush - The Bala Boys know it's a long time inside for them if they're caught & Jed hears the sound of multiple weapons being cocked.
With a sigh, he says to Owen "there'a a box of grenades in the cab, one previous owner"
"Great, I love Party Poppers" grins Owen.....
Tune in on Monday to find out what happens now!
