Not sure what's happened here but it looks like Morris has stopped being the organiser for the clubs Meetup Group.
If we don't sort out another organiser for it by the end of the week, then Meetup will shut the group down.

Having had a bit more of a look into this what it looks like is the subscription is up, renewal for the next 6 months which comes to $89.94.
Now I'm happy enough to become the organiser for the meetup group if Morris doesn't want to do it anymore, but whoever becomes the organiser will have to pay the subscription to keep the thing going.
Presumably the club will be fine to reinburse whoever pays the subscription?

Stephen - I can't (as only an ordinary member) give you an official answer but I think it would be great if you could at least temporarily take this on and keep the group going.
If there is a committee member reading this or someone has contact details for one, could we try to get confirmation for Stephen before tomorrow?
It would be a shame if the whole thing lapsed.

Thats pretty much what I was thinking, which is why I posted it up here.
I have no problems with running the meetup group for the club, or even paying the subscription (as long as I get the money back from the club at some point).
As I'm also not on the committee what I don't want to do is commit the club to spending money on this without the committe guys at least being aware of this.
On the grounds of not letting this fall down a hole, if I don't hear anything by the end of Friday what I'll do is take over the group and renew the subscription just for a single month. It's more expensive on a per month basis to do it that way compared to paying for 6 months at a go. But it's less cash ($19.99) to spend all at once without any say so.
At the least it will give us another month to properly sort out what the club wants to do with the Meetup group.

I hadn't been aware that the group even existed. Granted, this may say more about my perceptive capabilities than anything else. Does it see much use?

Some. Mostly the same group of 5 or 6 of us sign up. But then quite a few of the members aren't particularly active social media wise.
The club primarily created it last year as an additional way of attracting new members. We have picked up a couple of people as a result of it being there.
Like a lot of things we're more likely to attract attendees via the meetup group if it appears relatively busy most weeks. After all would you be keen to pop down to something that appears to have only 4 or 5 people attending, compared to an event that has 10 or more.

I fully agree Stephen, but I also cannot give you a definitive answer (being, like Chris, only a humble member)
I do half remember this coming up at the AGM – I think the consensus was that we would keep this running But I cannot be entirely sure
Also, the club is pretty good at reimbursing incurred costs
Peter, can you clarify please?

I shall attempt to make use of it myself - what you say makes fine sense.

We did discuss this at the AGM, and my recollection is that following the comments from Maurice concerning the cost we agreed to continue with the subscription. I have to confess it isn't something that I fully understand but if Steve you are prepared to pick this up for us then please go ahead and I agree to you being reimbursed the fee. I don't think we have seen Maurice for a couple of weeks so not sure if he is ill or away.

Right I spotted this the other day and mentioned it on Monday. As Terrance says it was indeed discussed at the AGM and we did agree to support it. Thank you to Stephen Mawson - yes please renew it, try and get a receipt and Peter will give you the money on Monday. I mentioned this issue to him last Monday and he said that we will pay for it.
It is possible that I may not be down on Monday

Stephen,
If you can step into the breach and renew the meetup membership I can reimburse you for any costs incurred. We did decide to continue the meetup at the AGM. Maurice was supposed to let me know the cost to continue but I have heard nothing since.

So here's a dumb question: how come, when I look at the Meetup event for this evening, it says "7 going" but I can only actually see 2 other people? Am I doing it wrong? Or do some people have an anonymous setting in place?

I've got myself plus Carl & Steve as additional heads - neither of whom are on meetup (and have no need/desire to be)
