First of all, a big thank you to all participants!!! I really enjoy running the game and I think by now we know most (but not all) of the rules so it plays faster. I am certain that I have childcare 2/1/2017 (but not 100% determined yet) so the first game of 2017 is most likely to take place 16/1, in the meantime I have a shedload of new stuff (predominantly ALL the Card expansions/ add-ons from the company, Artifacts, Other World Encounters etc) coming in to the game.
I would appreciate your input on the items listed below:
- Would you prefer us to continue to play as one group, or split the posse into two? Alternating group make-up from Adventure to Adventure? I personally don't mind whichever way, as long as everybody are having fun.
- How do you want to divide up the XP? I have seen several different variants, and I would like to suggest two that I think will be the fairest, as individual earnings of 10-20xp for doing stuff doesn't have a lot of impact when 6 (or 3) people need to share.
Method 1: The Combat XP for defeating enemies are shared and split between the party members, the individual earnings (healing/ spell casting/ Encounters/ Town Events/ Scavenge Cards etc) are kept solely by the Character earning them.
Method 2: Pretty much as above, but any character's Levelling Up 'donates' 10% of the excess XP in a pot and shares it out amongst those that are behind.
- I rolled my Bandido's Level Up Ability and got Side Bag Items +2 (for a total of 7). I would like to make a House Rule now that you can only get this upgrade ONCE as I don't see much benefit of having it multiple times.
- As Chris Lawman and my Bandido are now both Level 3 Heroes, ANY party (or the whole posse) that they are in will have to face ALL ENEMIES with 1 Elite Ability!!! As this is calculated on the highest level character in the posse!!!
Next time we play, Stephen will join us with the U.S. Marshal as the Preacher died!!! (The result on the injury table, due to his Internal Bleeding). The Bandido has now mutated and got an intimidating Tentacle Moustache (all items in town are -$10 to buy for him as the shopkeepers are scared!) and I rolled high enough on the Injury table to get away with but a scratch.
When we start next time, we need to do Dark Stone Corruption (if you haven't done that previously), decide size of Town (Small, Medium or Large) and do Travel Hazards. I suggested for Stephen's new character to start with $500 at Level 2.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR
Ove (The Resident Swede).

Hi all, I enjoyed last night very much. Finally got to be less than useless My preference would be to play all together. I only played twice, once all together and once split. Both with pros and cons I'd say, but if split, we miss what happens to the others in the other table that I thought was added fun. But this is just my opinion and I will fully adapt to everyone's choice. I am 15 XP short of levelling up to L2. If I play with the rest of the group, will I drag you down? I don't want to be a problem to the party...

That is most likely happening during the Travel Hazards or Town Visit, so wouldn't worry too much about that.

My preference would also be for playing together a a single game, it's just more fun with more people.
Incidentally as a result of the death of my orginal character I'm somewhat further behind in terms of leveling up. Essentially the US Marshal is around 400XP short of hitting level three.
I'm less sure about limiting the bag upgrade to just one. Only having 5 spaces for the various tokens, of which there are a lot of types, is pretty limiting. I would personally very much like to have a bag with a capacity of 10 or above. Being able to carry say 3 or 4 bandages, and 3 or 4 whisky and still have a little space for some dynamite would be great.
I'd perfer a large town, just because it gives the best likelyhood of having locations that people actually want to visit.

And if we decide to play all together in one group, I only have to bring down ONE Core Box !! I'm sure we can make some arrangement regarding your US Marshal to catch up somewhat, maybe at the end of the Town Encounter the characters that have levelled up could donate the excess XP to your character, or keeping a small sum on the plus side and then give your character the rest? I see your point, and yes it would be lovely, but I had a quick look through the 8 Heroes possible upgrades the other day. As far as I can see, the Bandido is the ONLY character that earns +2 Side Bag Capacity on the random level up roll, all others are +1 (think some might not get any...), so getting to 10 items would take at least 5 levels. Maybe the player could decide on multiple rolls of this upgrade whether to take it or re-roll? I am absolutely with you on this! I think it's time for a Large Town next time, and I recommend everyone to have a look at previous posting bedfordgladiators.proboards.com/thread/2021/shadows-brimstone-boardgame and get an idea of what you want to buy or activities to do before we play. There are several ways to earn money, selling Dark Stone/ unwanted items, gambling at the Saloon/ Gambling Hall, getting Bounties either at the Frontier Outpost or Sheriff's Office. Also, the Saloon Girl and the Outlaw have special options available.

I wouldn't worry about the XP too much. I'm only a few hundred down. If as expected we pick up a bit of XP in travelling and so on I'll catch up somewhat anyway. At worst I'm only likely to be out of synch level wise with the rest of the party for a single session.
I'm going to be a little lightly equiped compared to some, but hopefully the next mission will sort that out.
Given that we're now down a relatively reliable healer, I'd suggest that everyone is going to want to make sure they fill up on bandages or herbs, so that we can patch ourselves up.

Just a quick headcount. I know Chris is planning on playing something else on 2/1 so how many are available/ interested to play SoB on that day?
As we have the Town Visit ahead of us, I suggest that we check what Chris is intending to buy and do and we can run that for him (doctor springs to mind and maybe some supplies...)

With today's delivery, I have ALMOST everything that has been officially released to SoB so far!!! The only thing I lack is Swamp Slugs of Jargono (which has been OOP for some time now, but they are producing it again). There'll be much painting to do this spring . I'll bring SoB down to the club 2/1 and those who want to are welcome to play, I am even happy to have someone 'standing in' for the regulars, as I know Chris and Morgan have other commitments that day. Quick 'calender' check: 2/1 Attending 16/1 Attending 30/1 Working until 2000, so maybe someone could set it up for me as we've done before? 13/2 Probably ok, but need to check childcare plans as it's school holiday.

A short resume over what happened during the game Monday. There were several Travel Hazards on the way to the Town, which saw some of us losing money and a point or two of Health/ Sanity. Arriving into Town, the local doctor turned out to be a serial killer and absconded without anyone of us having a chance to ‘enjoy’ his services, fortunately there was another saw bones at the Camp Site.
The adventure itself went very well, Maisy Duke is certainly a force to be reckoned with.
Nervous Elk- Aside from being Possessed and losing some Sanity permanently, the doctor made a real hack job of the operation and instead of curing his Injuries, he made him lose Health permanently as well!! The only good thing is that the Medicine Man cured him of his Madness.
Maxwell Grit- Mr Scratch was tempting him with an offer but he politely (and wisely) declined. Unfortunately the doctor couldn’t do anything about his eye Injury.
Josephine- The doctor fixed her manky hand and she also bought an Artifact rifle for a bargain price and promptly affixed a longer barrel to it giving it even more range.
Maisy Duke- Is now sporting a Prehensile Tail which functions as a third hand!
US Marshal- Did well and got some money.
Pedro- Bought a Fast Horse and in addition to his Tentacle Moustache he is now also having a Chest Portal, sometimes Enemies or Artifacts just pop out of it! Got his mangled hand fixed which is a good thing.
I am going to print up some personally made cards (Long Barrel Upgrade, Mutations, Dark Stone Chest...)
Next time will be Monday 16/1 and we will have to roll for Corruption and Travel Hazards before Town Visit.

A very grateful Josephine says thank you all very much, while caressing her new rifle and striking the interesting barrel upgrade

Ove - out of interest, do we know how many games are left in the campaign? Well, there are 6 Basic Scenarios (we played number 5 this Monday) and each Other World has another 6 specific to that expansion, so I had hoped to run the Basic Scenarios and one of the Other World expansions as the campaign. Which means there are 7 games left.

A very grateful Josephine says thank you all very much, while caressing her new rifle and striking the interesting barrel upgrade I have some good and some bad news for Josephine, the new rifle is great (Range 10, 2 Shots, Critical Hits on 5+), BUT (I had a look at the Artifact Card)... there are no upgrade slots so I will reimburse you the money and the Dark Stone that you have paid.
