A loose discussion on the subject of differences in Infamy came up during the Chapter end, and it was suggested that if the difference between the Posses are at least 50 Infamy, 1 or 2 rerolls are not going to outweight it really fair.
One suggestion was to up the Experience for the Underdog, whether in case of a win or just participating wasn't sorted out. Suggest to replace the number of rerolls with extra Experience earned instead. The easiest way to distribute them would be to give them to the members of the posse with lowest total of Experience.
So if the difference is 102 Infamy the Underdog will earn 2 extra Experience at the end of the game for taking on this superior force.
Thoughts gentlemen?

How do you mean earn 2 extra experience? Do you mean 2 experience for the members of the posse with the lowest total experience or earning 2 rather than one for surviving?
I think if we could sort this out it would be a better solution than the re-rolls. As, I think, John pointed out it helps redress the unbalance in the long term much better than re-rolls would.

The award would be a number of Bonus Experience for the underdog equal to the re-rolls. And they would be distributed among the surviving Posse members with the lowest total Experience. So if you get 2 points, the two members with lowest total Experience would get 1 point each.
I think earning 2 instead of 1 for surviving would be a bit OTT, possibility to earn around 10 Bonus Experience is a lot!!

The advantage of giving Exp over re-rolls is that it helps 'underdogs' catch up faster, the downside is that it doesn't help make the actual fight fairer.
Personally if I was to suggest a mechanism for balancing games, I would go with the following: > Playing a gang with 40-80 more infamy gives D6 gang members +1exp (members chosen by player), winning the game gives another D6. > Playing a gang with 81+ more exp, gives the above & the player gets a free hired gun for the game (within price limitations). Perhaps we could have a couple of shared hired guns, one lawmen and one outlaw that are used for this.
Personally I would also like to see one other change. Only one model should be able to die outright after any game, any other deaths should be treated as 'old battle wounds' where the model has to roll before each game and can't play on a 1,2 or 3 (a second old battle wound being the same as dieing). This might make people slightly more likely to stick it out in a fight, currently everyone always runs as soon as they can because the risk of injuries is so high.

I think it's not a bad idea at all, have no clue if it will work out more fair or not. But I would still propose that you choose 1D6 among the Posse members with the lowest total instead of choosing freely. Mostly because (in my opinion it makes sense though) that the newcomers pick up tricks from the more experienced crew, and also that given the opportunity to add to ANY member, who wouldn't jump at giving it to the Leader and Heroes to "level up?" I would certainly give it to my best guys if it would help them to advance.
Thoughts?

I think D6 extra experience might be a bit too much. The possibility to give 6 extra exp. to my Sheriff just for having 40 lower infamy seems a bit too much of a boost. Perhaps it could be D3 instead. I'm in two minds about whether it should have to be given to the most inexperienced members or not.
I agree that we should limit deaths to one per game, a couple of bad roles can set you back a long way - if not completely destroy you. Although I'm not sure I think that treating other death roles as serious injuries will work that well. It still doesn't give that much of an impetus to carry on fighting. I'd prefer that you just reroll 11-15's on the serious injury table. What do other people think? There's probably a better compromise inbetween those two.
Also does this apply to both heroes and henchmen? I might be more in favour of the old battle wound variation for them.

To be clear on that subject, the proposed D6 is the number of members in the Posse that will get 1 Exp. extra each, you gave me the impression that you could assign 1D6 Exp. to any guy in your posse, ie ALL to one character, which is not correct.

Ahhh yes I'd misunderstood that. Ignore my first paragraph then, I think that's a good idea So the only question about that is whether there is a limit on who you can give it to....I guess I've still not made up my mind. Also rather than introducing a new rule to give the lower infamy posse a hand during the game, we could just use the re-roll rule as well as the new suggestions about exp. ?

Re-rolls for Heroes, Old wounds for Henchman would be fine with me. I didn't want henchmen being unable to get any downside after the first guy dies would be all.
Also with Exp, beyond the fact it will always be tempting to give it to Heroes, to me it makes more sense to give it to people with low exp as they need less to level up. But I don't really mind either way I'm not going to get any for a few games.

There are still plenty of bad things that can happen to a hero aside from it dying. Whereas henchmen are either dead or not dead/ Also with Exp, beyond the fact it will always be tempting to give it to Heroes, to me it makes more sense to give it to people with low exp as they need less to level up. In a game when someone faces off against a superior force (at least 40 Infamy difference) how about a fixed amount of 2 Experience for the Leader of the Underdogs (providing he survives) for participating and 3 if that Posse wins the Game (1 up from normal), and instead of a variable D6 roll a fixed amount of Bonus Experience among your most inexperienced fighters according to this table, which is difference in Infamy:
40-80 2 Bonus Experience 81-119 4 Bonus Experience 120-159 6 Bonus Experience add 2 points/ 40 Infamy difference.

That sounds good.
Is that in addition to the re-rolls or are we scrapping them?

I think in that case that we can scrap the re-rolls altogether.
