Which area do we fancy? It's my opinion that as it's the Great NORTHERN War we should be concentrating on armies like the Swedes, Russians, Saxons etc. But I might be persuaded to see things differently.

The GNW doesn't really interest me. Graham's got the period pretty much covered, certainly with regard to Swedes and Russians, but I suppose there's some mileage in the other Nations: Finns, Norwegians, Saxon, Poles maybe. It just doesn't appeal to me. I want the flashy lace etc of the Spanish Succession etc.
I'll be looking to do some research before I splash out on any lead, but at the moment I'm leaning towards the Dutch and Spanish Succession, but I've not ruled out the Williamite Wars in Ireland yet. Especially as you can use the Dutch for both.
Hmm . . .

For what its worth, my view is that we should go with the Spanish Succession. If people opted for armies with allies (eg. French & Bavarian; Dutch & British etc.) we could pool resources for games without too much initial investmet in lead.

I've got some Reiver Castings and I think that they are perfectly acceptable. Not as good as some others but then they are cheaper, £16 for an 18 figure BLB unit including pre cut bases. When they're painted I'lll bring some along for comments. DaveB

Hi Dave; I am currently painting some Russian infantry from Reiver that are coming out not to bad (better than the figures look) but I have some mounted figures to do and I have to say that the horse's look poor and I dont think that the painting will make much difference. Terry

As it appears that there is some interest in early 18th. century, I repeat century, warfare using the Under the Lily Banners rules, Beneath the Lily Banners?, are we going to try to match base finishes in the interest of consistency?

Dave We are going to tyr out the rules using some of our existing SYW figures; but if we move on from there then I would agree that we should base as per the rules. Terry

Depending on costs I might well be interested in this myself. So I'd be interested in seeing how the Reiver castings look when painted, as £16 for a unit doesn't sound's like it's well within my miniatures budget.

Terry, Sorry for the delay in answering, bt I meant how to finish the bases, white glue and sand?, polyfila type stuff? or what? It seems that the chaps that appeal to me, the Danes, were used as mercenaries by several otherarmies, so consistency in basing would help with the look of the thing. Dave B. P.S. Did you try the LOA rules?

I have a copy of these rules. they look good to me. I always like rules without army lists! lets you buy the actual army(s) you know. Shall dust of my winged hussars!

Have we reached a decision on a trial run for these rules? Personally I favour 10th. August, (I assume that's the August all day), as , hopefully, by then I should have few Danish units ready. It was suggested SYW figures could also be used. Any thoughts Gentlemen?

Does anybody fancy trying these rules out on the next Sunday game? The 21st. I believe. I've got 4 battalions, 2 squadrons of horse, a gun and a general so we'd need opposition, (7 years war troops pretending to be their grandfathers?). I have no idea how long such games last so perhaps we'd need some more troops pretending to be Danish.
