I found a brand new, free browserbased game on the net, haven't tried it yet, but it sounds promising. It takes place in the wild west and you can play Adventurer, Farmer, Duelist or Soldier. I'll check it out tomorrow maybe. Follow the link, the-west.net/The Swede.

I have now signed up and played a bit. It's a browserbased game so don't expect mindblowing graphics, totally free (you'll only need an account and off you go) and quite alright. You start out with a Greenhorn and you can do quests and jobs (pick cotton, tobacco, put up wanted posters etc.), found a town (aiming for that) and Duel (beat other players, but you need to be a citizen in a town to be able to challange others). You've got Levels, Stats and Skills, and different jobs demand different skills and there's a few that come in handy in a Duel. Anyway, most things take a certain time to execute ( ), usually between 10mins and 2 Hrs, which means you can decide what to do and leave the game for other things in the meantime (like your life or work...) and then come back at a later time. You'll send requests (telegrams) to other players to join their town or if you're the founder, to get others to join your town. Seems like great fun, I'm under my nome de guerre, Legionnaire as on the forum and play on World 6 if anyone's willing to give it a go. Happy trails pardner, The Swede.

I might have a look at it later if I'm not distracted by other things (like work).

I'd of course like an Invite to Ove's town if possible. I've had a quick look to see if I could find it, but there are so many it'd take ages to search through them all.
It looks pretty good. More sophisticated than I was expecting. The travelling around for jobs mechanism looks pretty clever.
I've not done much yet, just working my way through the initial quests.

As self-appointed Mayor over Hangmans Noose, I'm already on the case. You'll find one Invitation and a message in your telegrams box.
Welcome.

I've finally reached level 10, so it's time for me to make my choice of character class.
I'm not sure if you've looked this up yet, and seeing as I'm at the screen right now, I thought I might as well list the bonuses you get for each class. I'm pretty much decided on going with worker, and therefore looking to spend my time improving the town.
Adventurer
Adventurers are soldiers of fortune and curious discoverer. They don't want a calm and organized life, they love the risk and strive for the big fortune. Adventurers are the ideal characters for players that love quests and a bit of risk taking.
The chance to find a product when working a job is increased by 10%. The chance to find an item during work is increased by 10%. You can use hotels in foreign towns for free until level 2. The chance to get hurt while working a job is lowered by 10%.
Dueler
Duelers live for the moment. They love to duel. They challenge other players for a handful of dollars, out of revenge or even just for fun. Duelers rarely stay close to their town, they move from town to town looking for good opponents. Duelers are ideal for very active players that like the conflict.
The speed on the map is increased by 10%. The motivation for dueling raises faster. It is increased 20% faster. You receive 10% more money in a duel.
Worker
A Worker likes honest work and tries to avoid confrontation with other players. Workers are greatly needed in each town for the construction of buildings. Most workers keep close to their towns. Workers are a great choice for players that like to plan ahead and don't mind working for the good of their town.
The earned experience points for a job are increased by 5%. You can deposit 20% more into your bank account When constructing buildings in town you receive a bonus of 5% to your labor points. The motivation to construct buildings in town rises by 10% faster.
Soldier
A lot of soldiers strive for fame and glory, others for the highest wages. They are known for their toughness. Even a hurt soldier keeps fighting. Soldiers are good defenders in duels and powerful in shootouts where they benefit from their skills with all kinds of weapons.
For each skill point given to the skill health points you receive an additional 5 health points for your character. The level needed to use a weapon is lowered by 3 levels. In duels you receive a bonus of 50% to your tactic skill.
Enjoy!

Oh, also: if we're looking for new members at some point then it might be worth having a gander over here:

Are we looking for a balance of classes, so the towns residents cover all the bases, or does that even matter.
I think I'll probably either go for Adventurer or Worker when I get to level 10.

Stephen: I think it's best left up to you when the time comes. I'm going for Adventurer, if I only can get the experience points together... Soon, soon.

I think it would be good to have a duelist to go and battle other towns (which I think Ove said Wolter is going for), and a worker to help build stuff (which is me). The other two seem to be sort of in between ones. The best thing to go for is whatever you like the most - that way you'll get the greatest enjoyment from it, which is the point in the end
