Niel , from MKWS has asked me what we are doing for the show this year....Ideas? consider this a rocket up the butt! Ideas I have had. Big Fantasy game, maybe using Marks rules. WAB game, may be El Cid, excuse to paint more Andalucians, and get the castle walls out! Conglomorate of stuff, couple of smaller tables with Wild west, FoG, Board games. More an attempt to show the diversity of the club. Admittedly we need the people for this but can change games on day 2! ACW ....Gettysburg? Mark's Naps Dave

Thanks Mark, you're most welcome !
Bearing in mind that I am unlikely to be able to actually attend Campaign, at least on the Saturday due to child care duties, my thoughts are:
Why do we attend Campaign ? Answer - to raise our profile locally and, hopefully, recruit some fresh blood. So, I think we either go for a game such as WHFB or 40k which more people will know and recognise but which they might not have realised there was another outlet for locally other than the GW shop, or we go for colour and spectacle. 40k seems quite bouyant at the club at the moment, so we could probably do something around a big Apocalypse game with the opportunity for people to contribute contingents of troops and vehicles.
As for colour and spectacle, I think a large horse and musket game with well-painted miniatures and terrain would fit the bill. Personally I would favour SYW, but anything from ECW through to Franco-Prussian war would probably do the job.
Another suggestion to consider is that many of us in the club (Mark, Terry, Graham, myself) have got 6mm War of the Spanish succession figures so far unbloodied which we bought at Reading last year (and Newark, Mark). We could put on quite a spectacular early 18th century game if we set to with the painting and organisation now.

Martyn - last Sunday, Dave, Terry, Steve and I had a bit of a discussion regarding the game. We came up with idea of using the weekend to play "day 2" of our hypothetical Gettysburg game.
The thinking was:
a, It would look good - lots of lead b, We have it all, maybe a couple of extra bits of terrain required only c, It would kill two birds with one stone and we'd get to finish or continue the game.
Since then I've thought some more about this, and although I think we could pull it off I'm a bit concerned we won't have the bodies to play the game properly. At Christmas we had 8 players plus refs, we won't get anything like that at Campaign.
Perhaps we need to think about it some more.
I rather jokingly suggested last night that we could play the actual Gettysburg Day2 using WHFB figures (Elves vs Orcs/Goblins), and Dave suggested we do an "Orcs drift" sort of game. The more I think about it the more I think a Fantasy game might be a good idea, at least for Campaign, we should take something historical to Colours.
Perhaps if we did a Fantasy bash we could try and wangle an invite to Gamesday via the GCN . . . I'm not sure how that works.

For Gamesday you basically have to supply GW with details of the scenario you are intending to do, and they will then let you know whether you are allowed to do it.
It's not particularly stringent as such, it's mainly to try and ensure they've got a variety of games across the various systems.
I believe they'll be asking for scenario submissions shortly I think.

The ACW idea is a good one and with the time we have we could have sorted out the terrain issues we had. But on reflection the number fo players is likely to be an issue; as would the initial setting up.
The ideas being thrown around last night sounded odd but the more you think about them!
Taking an actual historical battle and refighting it with fantasy figures could appeal to all sorts of gamers; and it would be the right scale to be visually appealing.
So all we have to do now is find a battle and agree the combatants?

How about Bosworth, purely as if you include both the Stanley's that gives you four seporate armies to work with. Plus the fact that the two main forces don't know exactly whether the other two are going to join in with them or attack them.

Blood Bath at Orcs Drift was a scenario boxed set you buy for Warhammer Second edition.
I had a copy . It was rather good as it game with all the things you needed to play, including card buildings.
Sadly I no longer have the copy. BUT the point I was getting round to is those chaps at GW might appreciate a bit of nostalgia at Games Day.

Just to throw my tw'pennies worth in
Here's an idea Maurice and I were half joking around with on the way home from work one night
I'm sure you've all read Grunts by Mary Gentle (if you haven't, I thoroughly recommend it)
So, how about the fort at Nin-Edin - silly I know, but the more I think about the more I like it
We could use 40k orks for the orc marines (not sure what we can use for the SUS yet, but I'm sure we'll think of something) and an allied force of humans, elves (high and/or wood) and dwarves for the "light side"
Rule set would probably be based on WHF (possibly with LB expansion), with one or two special rules to deal with the details in the book -- e.g. a "fail weapons" spell for all light side wizards, magic resistance for the orc marines (to represent the anti-magic talismans they carry), etc
Also, it will require quite a lot of scenery - we'll need a fort for a start (I'm sure I've seen a castle around somewhere that would do nicely) - so it should look good
So, what does everybody think?

Mike a little bit late as Dave has already submitted to MK that we are doing a 15mm what if Gettyburg game (day 2 of what we started at christmas). However I think that there is still support for this to be Pickets Charge but with Orcs and Eleves.

Well, at the meeting to absolutely and completely decide what we are doing at MK, 15mm ACW Gettysburg was decided....since then some beer goggles have been purchased, and a cloudier view seemes to have been made of the evenings decision! Dave

I suggest we do a poll of who will be attending both days of Campaign. It is a really good opportunity to do day 2 if the right people are available.
If not doing pickets charge with High Elves and Orcs (or Dark Elves) would be fun to look at and turn a few heads I think. But we need to check we have enough painted forces as my elves need to be finished off basing wise.

Well, I shall definately be at Campaign - probably both days (it's only a 20 min drive after all)
Steve -- Pickets Charge with High Elves and Orcs That appeals to my sense of the silly - great fun (and it should look good too) I've got plenty of High Elves if you need some
Hmmm - wonder if we could fit a dragon into that, or would that be just a bit too silly ;D ;D
