Would someone with a technical bent please explain in easy to understand baby-talk how you get a selection of text from an earlier post to appear in a box within your own post so as to refer to it in order to make mock of it, or praise it to the skies ? Ta

That is such a stupid noOb question ;D You mean like that. At the top of the post you want to quote there is a button "quote" just click on that and the entire post will appear in a new reply window ready for your post to be added. You can even shorten the quote so that only what you want is repeated. Hope that helps.

Just to be complete, you can put anything you like inside a quote box - even if it wasn't a quote to begin with. All you need to do is put the text in between (quote) some text (/quote) tags (using square brackets instead of curved ones). For example: I hate elves! They smell!
