Daiv emailed me a link for EM4 miniatures. they are able to do small runs of custom dice using laser cutter technology. The price seems no where near the costs of £600 bandied about at the AGM. For 25-50 dice, you are talking, 73p per side engraved for a 22mm die. We would only require the "6" engraved I guess, with the other faces as dots. Black with gold dots/logo? look up the site, www.em4miniatures.com/acatalog/Custom_Dice.htmlSo I think it looks like under £50 for a batch of 50? that is doable I think. Just one thing they require the image as a vector graphic on an eps file...mm techie stuff....Maurice? Dave

Actually I don't know where I got the £600 figure from. I've had a quick look back through the clubs invoices and we paid just over £300 for 1,000 dice, so around 0.30p a die.

That's sounds very reasonable to me - especially if the dice are guaranteed to roll 6's ;D .30p is well worth it. After my game against Ashleigh I'm convinced by special Tau shooting dice have been tampered with

Obviously the price per dice goes down the more you order. We won't be getting that many I think! Dave

At those prices this is definately on -- so I say, go for it
Afraid neither Maurice nor I can help with the file format (at least not easily) -- that's graphic design technology, not web design
But I'm sure there's somebody amongst our highly capable band who can

I think we'd shift way more than 50. Most games now are dice heavy - even FOG. Could we not use club funds to subsidise the final product; e.g. if we could buy them in bulk for, say £0.25 per dice then sell them on to club members at £0.15 per dice ? I'd have a bucket load at that sort of price level.

I am seeing if I can get hold of a Graphics program that can save in this format.
If not we could check if they could convert for us for a small fee?

Just one thing they require the image as a vector graphic on an eps file...mm techie stuff....Maurice? Dave I can do it. I have photoshop and it can convert the original file to a photoshop eps file. I don't have a digital copy of the artwork though, and although I have the original art I no longer have a scanner. Dave - depending on the file size, can you email it to me, or stick it on a disk and bring it to the club?

Yep, just discovered the same thing -- I have Photoshop on my PC at work All we now need is the file
Martyn -- I guess that would be Peter's decision, although I can't really see it happening -- no harm asking though I suppose
That said, the prices don't look so high as to scare me off, even if the club isn't subsidising And their website does state, and I quote, "Prices reduce as quantity increases." -- so if enough people are interested we could get a pretty good deal

Our own dice - sounds great!
I think it would be good for members able to put in orders for how many they would want to buy. It would be best if it did not cost the club too much if anything.
It might be good to get two colours as its helpful with some games and not mixing them up with your opponent etc.
Also we should not get to big ones as some games you need to be able to roll a bucket load.

I agree -- getting firm orders, or at least firm promise to buy, first makes sense. otherwise the club could well end up with a lot of extra dice that it has no use for.
Actually, I quite fancy the big ones. In fact I've been half thinking of looking for some bigger dice for some time, largely because I feel the standard size dice feel a little light for my likely.
I am, of course, aware that this view may not be shared be everybody, so it raises a query: Can we have different size dice made from the same graphic file?
Personally, I don't see why not -- if it's a vector graphic file it is, by definition, scaleable so it should be possible from the technical veiwpoint The question then is whether or not em4 will do this

As far as I can see mike, EM4 are not too bothered about what or how much you buy, as long as you get the minimum order quantity! And I would suppose the one image we supply, assuming it is in the preferred format, would suffice for any type or colour. I can see the point of 2 colour types. May I suggest a black with gold dots and logo, and a yellow, with black dots and logo?
