I am looking into having a go at WW2 stuff, any info regards scales that sort of thing, rules what to look out for etc.
I remember watching a iirc 20mm game one night at the club, but can't remember rules system etc. Any info or advice guys?

Flames of War is pretty good. It's basically a WWII game designed with the speed of play and simplicity of Warhammer or 40K. Which is not to suprising as the guys who designed it were ex-GW employees. It's a 15mm scale.
It's a points based system, where you build your force around the theme of either an Infantry Company, Mechanised Infantry Company or Tank Company of the various armies.
What types of units you can add into your force varies depending on what type of Company you've selected. Infantry companies can have plenty of infantry squads and support weapons, but can't have many armoured vehicles. Mechanised Infantry can have a mix of Infantry and armour, while a tank company as you'd expect has plenty of armour, but can only have a small amount of supporting infantry.
Project Hydra in Northampton as James said sells Flames of War stuff, as does Osbornes Sports and Toys in Rushden, they have a much smaller selection of stuff, although they will order anything they don't have in for you.
The 20mm game you saw is going to have been the Peter Gilder rules stuff that Steve and Peter play pretty regularly. That's a more complex system, but it's much more realistic system than Flames of War. It's correspondingly a slower paced but more tactical game, which is scenario based rather than points based.

several of us at the Gladiators have 15mm flames of war armies although it has fallen out of favour recently. These rules are designed primarily for 1500 points a side competition type games and do not scale up too well - although we put on a big demo game last year set in Normany with an Armoured regiment plus other forces (Para Company, Commando's american armour plus air support) taking on the germans near peagaus bridge. As Steve Mawson said Steve Welsh and Pete at the club also use 20mm scale forces with Peter Gilder rules all the time and are normally happy to let other people join in on occasions, some people also do Crossfire with 28mm, and we sometimes do 1/300 with Combat Commander (warmaster type set of rules) .
So plenty of choice

I think it was Steve and Pete i sat in on , they were playing an Eastern Front scenario. I'm guessing then Peter Gilder rules, i quite liked the flow and style of their game . Cheers for the info chaps.

It was indeed i and Peter that you met and watched. We will be playing another WW2 on Wednesday (5th August) It will be 1945, fighting around a port and we will have some new IS2 Soviet tanks being used! There is always a place for you in the game!
