Hi all I thought you would like a little up date on our visit to Colours 2011 with our fantasy demo game. We put on a battle between the High Eleves and Dwarfs using a very good set of rules that Mark had run up for us. We easily filled the 12x6 that had been provided for us, we didn't count but there must have been getting on for 2000 figures. We had a very successful weekend with plenty of interest in our game (as we did at MK in July) I think we all spent a fair amount of time particularly on the Saturday speaking to visitors and gamers. A big thank you to Steve, Dave, Mark and Neil for their efforts over the weekend.
We have already started to think about a game for 2012, as we like to alternate (but not fixed in stone) we thought we should aim for an historical subject.
Please feel free to put forward your suggestions and ideas, we do lean towards demonstration games these days as participation games are hardwork as I am sure anyone previously involved will confirm.
We also try and base it around existing figure collections, the club will usually help out with terrain if required but to buy figures can be a big out lay.

Ah-ha Terrence!
There is only word - "Banzai"!!
May i suggest for next year that we look at the Far East for our inspiration!
Ithought we might do one of these:
1. Samurai - 28mm 2. Samurai - seige of a castle 3. WW2 - Okinawa in 20mm 4. 1937 - Nationalist China v Japan 5. 1945 - Soviet Union v Japan 6. Samurai - Mongul invasion of Japan
My personal favourite wouldbe the Seige of a Japanese castle!
Banzai!

All sounds good Steven
Might I also suggest the Boxer Rebellion (1898-1901) -- specifically the seige of the Beijing Legation Quarter (20th June 1900 - 14th August 1900)

Ah but no one has any boxer minis! and as yet apart from some 15mm Samurai armies not much in the way of demo quality models to use. However we have been discussing the late war Japan Russian war in Manchuria. This has not been done to my knowledge, and with some excellent 28mm stuff coming from Warlord and the Plastic soldier company, this may be the one I would go for, I would certainly try my hand at the Japanese...just not a match for those T34/85's though!

Thanks for the update Terry, great to hear how the game was received. Well done to all who flew the flag for the Gladiators at Colours!
As for next year, Banzai indeed! The siege of a castle is certainly an evocative subject. Yet if the Russo-Japanese war broke new ground then that would be a very worthwhile project.

As I said we need to aim at something where we have a base of figures to start with unless of course someone has a burning desire to get into a new period. The late Japan, Russian war in Manchuria, not something that I am very familiar with but wasn't it very one sided? Masses of Russian hardware against a basic armed Japanese infantry army that was just rolled over?

What Terry says about having a figure base makes excellent sense, but I'm quite keen to use my 28mm Japanese. He's also correct about the1945 war being one sided. I'd prefer something Pacificy as the few figures I've painted are finished as SNLF troops, (and it is the 70th. anniversary of the invasion of Guadacanal next year).

I think Guadacanal would be an excellent game to do, especially in 28mm!
Means i can still use my favourite words "1000 years"!
Or, perhaps more well known - BANZAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII !!!!!!!!

Pacific war sounds good, it is seldum done at shows. I'm collecting 20mm stuff, but if you want to paint 28mm that's ok with me!

There is also the option to do it in 54mm. And as airfix and Tamiya do plastic stuff it may not cost any more than 28's.

The Pacific war sounds like a great choice. Will we be using any aircraft minis?
