I was talking to Carl, from Phoenix today, about KELMARSH next year. Do we fancy puting on a game? I suggeated Kadesh, as I have lots of Egyptians, and should sort out Hitites by then, may be the addition of a nice citadel from Front Rank, to represent Kadesh? thoughts? we may put on a couple of games if there is room. the tent was certainly spacious this year. Dave
I like the idea of being able to put on a game or two at KELMARSH 09; I do not have an interest in Kadesh thought; wont it come down to who's chariots get to charge first? I wonder as it is a re-enactment event will Mike and Dave be dressing up?
Before we get to carried away and start to plan something are we lilely to get an invite?
As for the sheer spectacle of the thing Thousands of chariots pounding each other to a bloody standstill across the deserts of Syria - we're well into Cecil B DeMille territory here
And for gaming potential - I refer to my previous comment regarding the spectacle of it all
What's not to like ;D ;D
It's just chariots chasing each other around. With maybe some infantry looking on (none of the Hittite infantry were engaged). The spectacle will only be achieved by fielding large numbers of chariots -which doesn't sound like too much fun to me.
Phoenix Gaming Rushden have been invited again, and I cant see there being a problem with Bedford Joining the frey.
This year it was insisted that we did a Boer War scenario as it as the anniversery, the other games we got to choose. Next year I think its left up to us what we put on, but will ask Carl to look into that see if they have anything specific they want us to do
;D Ah someone else who can see the potential! what with the Grand Manner ancient fortification in the middle, as Kadesh...you'r laughing! Anyhow, I did say we could have a couple of games, as biblical bronze age types not to everyones taste! Dave
Dave's been looking for a mug somebody to do some opposition for his Egyptians - so I'm sure he'll let you know shortly ;D [/quote]
LOL What are you suggesting mark!! true, the bulk of the Hittite army was across the river(forgot it's name) but we can do a what if, and see if they can total the remnants of the forward Eyptian corps, by finding a crossing point, before the second turns up! Dave
Hi Guys, in answer to at least one of the questions as far as i'm aware at the moment there is no specific game or period English Heritage want us to put on but that may change once they have the date for next year and know who is attending re-enactor wise. At the moment i think it best if you choose just one scenario to put on as Phoenix already have several planned and Dan from Wargames Illustrated has also expressed an interest in them putting a game on as well. We are thinking of doing 2 smaller tables (4 x 4) one with Wings of war and the other a Napoleonic naval battle. we also now have one confirmed game which will be romans v celts, and other possibles are another ancients game (thermopalye) plus 1 or 2 flames of war tables as this went down extremely well this year. as Steve said i think we could do a fair amount of tables and my thoughts are 5 or 6 large games and a couple of smaller ones but the final decisions will be made during late October / early November, so if you could sort out your idea by the end of september and email it to me (Dave Wilkin has my email ) that would be great. i need an overview of the scenario idea, armies involved etc. Cheers for now.
The only other thing i forgot to mention that entry into last years event was by Phoenix Gaming Club membership card only, and anyone attending the event and running the games must be a Phoenix club member, so once you have decided which scenario you want to put forward please consider that anyone wanting to go to Kelmarsh will have to join Phoenix to get a membership card, currently £6 for the year. Obviously the membership wont need to be taken out until Jan 2009. The added benefit is that your card will get you 10% discount at osbornes in rushden and hopefully a pass so that family members can attend kelmarsh for one of the 2 days for free.
