Yes next week we return to a future that never happened ....
Its June 3rd 1983 and the 3rd World War has been raging for 5 days. Desperate defence by the NATO armies has stalled the WARPAC offensive short of its Channel port objectives. However, this success has been achieved only with tremendous attrtion of the NATO forces, particularly the NATO airforces which, despite being caught on the ground have acquitted themselves well.
WARPAC has also suffered greatly and now the onus of the assualt is on the 2nd echelon forces equipped with older equipment - can they throw aside the thin NATO defence and push through Germany into the Low Countries?
We shall see next Monday!

1983 is the swansong of the Chieftan Main Battle Tank. Having been in service for 25 years the Chieftan was dogged by problems, noteably the Leyland engine BUT its formidable armour and massive 120mm gun sets it apart in NATO as THE formidable tank.
However, by 1983 Chieftan was being replaced by Challenger 1 but with a good crew and its protection it will be a massive problem for WARPAC tanks. Damon has 3 - lets see how they get along against the Soviet waves!
In real life Chieftan fought in two wars, firstly in the Iran - Iraq war a nine year slug fest from 1980-89. Iran had purchased 1000 - more than the British Army and it aquitted itself very well. Free Iranian forces, traitors fighting for Iran against their country of birth also used it. Its not clear if their were any Chieftan v Cheiftan encounters. The 2nd war was the Chieftans of the tiny Kuwaiti army fighting Iraq in 1990-91, and it was Chieftans of the Free Kuwaiti Army who had the honour of liberating Kuwait city when the coallition invaded Iraqi held Kuwait.
Should be a good game as I love the Chieftan!
By the way, there are still quite a few available to buy on the internet! If i won the Lottery ...

My bad! As Ted would say - Free Iranian forces fought for IRAQ against their country of origin, Iran!

Major Damon surveyed the terrain - his mixed combat unit of West Germans and British troops were taking up position to ambush the WarPac troops. Would his Chieftans hold the line? We shall see on Monday night!

Cpl White watched the water droplet on his helmet rim vibrating in time with his shivering in the misty half light. Behind him he could hear the sizzle of bacon as the tankers cooked breakfast, it smelt better than the poxy compo he'd be having. "Bloody Tankies", they didn't have to spend all night laying in a puddle under a leaky poncho - oh no, comfy crew shelter for them. They didn't have to stag on 2 on, 2 off all night. Who'd be a grunt eh?
Suddenly, there was a dull thud from behind him, followed by a shock wave that blew the water droplet away. The smell of bacon increased & was accompanied by a high pitched shrieking that stopped suddenly after 45 seconds.... "Parker, where's that shaggin' Charlie G - Ivan's coming!!" he bellowed!!
"Rather be a grunt any day" he muttered as he squinted at the shapes appearing through the mist....

Well Ivan appeared but was blown away by accurate fire from Damon and Matt. I might add that my glorious T64 was shot away from under me, but i survived!
