Major Valentine Sevior commanded a T34 medioum Tnak Company, as part of 3rd company, 23rd Tank Regiment. He and his crews had recently handed in their rather elderly T34/76 tanks and received new T34s with the bigger gun - the 85mm! In training they practiced firing at a captured Panzer IV and smashed it. However, not so clear on what will happen if a Tiger or Panther turns up ....

Captain Igor Safremamich of the Soviet Army Airforce readied his PE-2 bomber for the morning's planned flight. A simple operation in support of our ground troops, all he had to do was drop some bombs on a farm complex near the front line. Giove the fascists something back.
Hailing from Kharkov, Igor had seen his city change hands 3 times last year, eventually falling into the hands of the Soviet forces after a nasty seige. Igor was out for revenge - the Nazi SS had inflicted many bestial crimes on his people and it was right that the PE-2 should kill a few of them.
Flying was good now, not like the dark days of 1941 when inexperinced pilots had been shot from the sky by the experienced Luftwaffe. Now the Soviets were masters of the skis and woe betied any Germans he found on the ground!
Take off in 20minutes ....

Swede! I can tell you that quite a few of your countrymen, Norwegians and Finns fought in Army Group North, so maybe "Sven" was sitting in the next dug-out to Herman? Sven is used to this sort of temperature - he isnt like Herman, he's been raised in the snow, in a country where people laugh at snow! Where madness and strange and odd practices occur during the long, cold winter nights where the sun rearely appears! Lt Meyer knows the Russian of old - determined, stupid, easily confused but relentless in the assualt even when faced with massive firepower and casualties. However, the new Russain soldier is different. He's learnt how to fight - infantry now co-operate more readily with tanks, commands are obeyed and a tactical finess is very much part of the skill of even the lowest ranks. The Soviets KNOW they are winning and that gives them an extra determination. They are very dangerous. And now, their tanks are better as well as more numerous than the Axis forces. It's only the superb junior leaders, of which Meyer is one, that give the German forces an ability to stand and fight against tremendous odds. Can Meyer and his platoon stand their ground? We shal see on Monday! Sven, Harald, Gote, Evert, Frans, Bertil and Kurt are all good ol' names for Scandinavians of a certain age... , Sven hailed from the North of Sweden which fostered hard, tough men, the idea of a conversation was to clear the throat and sit silent for the next four hours. Sven fondly remembered the days before the war, the days of poaching, moonshine brewing and generally minding his own business. Here he was now, sitting in a cramped foxhole with the "new boy" who seemed to have to go to the latrine every ten minutes, "bet he's nuts scared of the Reds" Sven mused. I think you're building up a very good tale here Steven!!!

Thank you Chris - those pictures are terrific - really does do a justice to what we are doing. Please do keep this up old chap - pictures on here will give the viewer a big idea that we are a dynamic and well supported club, with innovative games.
Hurrah!
Lt Meyer did survive!
The game went well, and the Soviets advanced well although Richard has had his dice throwing mojo well and trully snatched from him. His rolling was terrible. As a result of that, the Soviets lost only 2 tanks yet managed to kill several German ones, including Terrances new Jagdpanther in its combat debut. Mind you, that managed to stamp on one of my KV1s, although it did take two shots to do it.
However, duie to me talking and various other distractions we didnt really get into the infantry battle - running out of time - so the two new German platoons only managed a few shots before the game eneded, which was a shame.
It is unlikely that i will be at the club next Monday, and I know that PTO and Richard also wont be attending.
The following week we may well make a return to Army Group North, this time 6 months later in January 1945! The final assualt on the fascist beast!
