Quick question:
If our 35 year celebration was in 2009, does that not mean the club is 40 this year?

Unless the rules of arithmetic have changed since I was at school, sounds about right to me.
Does the club have any plans to commemorate this milestone?
If not, should we be making some?

Ok - I'm going to make a suggestion based on a few conversations we've had about this. I suggest we do something simple and easy to arrange - we pick a weekend where we already have an all day sunday and hire the hall for the saturday as well (as, I believe, the club did for the 35th). We then play games of all varieties for the entire weekend and one of us gets or bakes a cake. There would be no need to invite other clubs but we could of course do so if we wanted. We can also easily and simply walk down Tavistock st on the saturday night, pick a curry house and enjoy a curry together (non subsidised if the committee prefer) Only extra cost would therefore be the room hire. I suggest the 12th and 13th of July as it is far enough away that we might be able to organise our new tables by then? and gives a chance for people to think about larger games they might want to play. (for rpgs I'd suggest the traveller game here as it is nearly as old as the club! ) If these arrangements and dates would work for you then reply below. If there is enough support (we would presumably only need say 10 people to make this worthwhile) then I suggest we go ahead and ask if the room is free on Sat 12th July? What do you think?

I'm happy for any opportunity for additional gaming.
In terms of meal since we've currently got a vote going on for a summer curry we might want to try and coincide any gaming day so that it ties in with the summer curry.

Good point from Stephen.
In terms of a 40 year bash, i think its a good idea.
However, personnaly my health will not allow me to do 2 days of gaming, although i wish i could.
The hire of the hall on saturday will be more expensive than hire on a sunday - its a higher demand day / evening so they charge more.
Tables - well Peter and Terry were discussing this. Perhaps one of them would like to comment?
I would love to do a 2 day game - changing across a large table with my panzers but i suspct that my usual opponents may not have the same gaming / real life balance!

I agree its a great idea to do something for our 40th, a weekend event similar to our 35th would work. To give us time to arrange and to avoid the holiday period I would imagine that we would be looking at September or later. September may work as we would normally attend the Newbury show but this has been cancelled this year. I am following up a couple of leads re the tables, hopefully I can finalise this with Pete on Monday.

Dear All, Further to our discussions about a 40th celebration Pete has spoken to the club to check on availability of the room. The room is free on each Saturday before our previously booked 2nd Sunday, the 13th September and the 11th October (I have checked the Derby show is on the 4th and 5th). Pete has provisionally book both to give us the time to decide which weekend we would like, being regular users we have been offered a good rate which is futher reduced as we won't require a bar. I would like your thoughts on which weekend to confirm the booking, who is likely to attend, who you may like to invite (other clubs), what you would like to do, clearly if a big game is planned tables could be an issue.

Both of those dates are fine with me
I think we should definitely invite some of the surrounding clubs and make a big day of it
Not exactly sure about what to do yet -- maybe a large demo game -- or perhaps a friendly competition of some kind
What do you all think?

Either weekend works for me too. There's a small chance I'll be called into work on either weekend but that's unlikely. In terms of games personally I'd look to be role playing for a lot of the weekend with maybe some board games and some deadzone. Basically a chance to do more of what we already do. There's a whole bunch of RPG game ideas to run over such a weekend. I'd happily run some hollow earth expedition, savage worlds, new d&d, pathfinder or Star Wars RPGs. I'd also happily run an intro to role playing games for anybody that would like to try one. I'd perhaps also like to try a demo ww2 wargame for a short part of the weekend? I'm also up for inviting other clubs but I'd be equally happy without doing so. I think that new tables would be needed regardless of our plans. I'd also suggest a whole club activity just before heading out for a meal on sat night? How about a game of werewolf or how about a quiz on sci fi and military history? If the quiz idea appeals I'd happily write the sci fi questions! I'd need a military history expert co host All just suggestions but hope that helps
