Hello all Quick reminder that it's the next part of our 5th edition game on mon 1st December. I think you had just failed to put a one eyed gribbly psychic thing to sleep and it was not happy with you. No worries though, Mike's character has his new wooden sword to use to defend you all Looking forward to it! Chris Gideon much prefers is big two-handed metal sword As the aforementioned one eyed gribbly psychic thing AND and room full of bugbears AND a room full of drunken thugs found to their cost The wizard at least had enough good sense to surrender, although i doubt it will profit him much in the long run I suspect he's probably facing a long drop at the end of a short rope (if he's lucky) Oh well, that's what you get for running a protection racket and terrorising honest villagers

Sorry about missing the last session, I should be able to make the next one.
Sounds like you had fun in my absence.

I certainly enjoyed running it The group went with a simple and yet effective strategic direction in your absence Stephen.... They did however kill the only people in the dungeon who had the info you needed and had to burn through 3 of 4 healing potions to stay alive. A tpk was certainly on the cards till the 3 bugbears started missing repeatedly! Incidentally my dungeon master's guide arrived 2 days ago and I've started reading through it. Looks great and confirms that this edition is really a successor of the 1st edition ad&d. There are lots of useful random tables, huge amounts left up to the discretion of the dm and it feels like a toolkit rather than a set of specific rules. The big difference is that it all makes sense however and doesn't make my brain cry. What is really interesting is that as written, magic items really are very special and rare. Healing potions are the most common but to create a single one takes 4 days work, access to a quite rare formula, and 100gp! Alchemist shops in large settlements do stock them but they are normally traded for favours or in return for errands etc (just like the cleric's offer to our group of 3 potions if you go and ask that question of the Banshee) This also means that the staff of defence and the magic sword the group found this week are both really special items. As written, these cannot easily be sold as very few people have the money to buy them. In addition, the idea seems to be that magic items are there for fun, flavour and plot rather than a necessary aid to levelling up in 5th ed (as opposed to 3.5 and pathfinder). The lower ac and reduced number of to hit modifiers mean that even a +1 sword is a really special thing. The rules in the dmg have pages of tables to give these items unique characteristics too so they should feel special within the story. An interesting idea! Let's see how it plays out! Next session is ideally Sunday 14th December. Graham, Maurice and Mike can all make it. Are you able to join us Stephen?

Probably. I theory I'm free that Sunday, but I'm probably not going to know for certain until the middle of next week.

Hello All I'm still struggling to get used to my new commute and simply need to cut down on eve stuff else I'm going to burn out. I'm therefore going to have to postpone the rest of our 5th ed game until I get used to things and we'll pick it up if people want to later on. This should make it more likely I can come to the club fortnightly to play pathfinder Many many thanks for a fun game. I know we've been talking about other games recently too so hopefully people won't be too disappointed! See you on the 2nd feb for pathfinder hopefully! Chris
