My fully painted 40k Space Marine Army is sad and lonely sitting in its case. It took me, I'd estimate, at least 100hrs to paint over the years and I feel it's time for an outing. Otherwise they will probably break out of my case and wake me and my wife up at 3am with massed inaccurate tiny and dusty bolter fire... However, the current ruleset for 40k is expensive and complicated. Alternative wargames will require much customisation to use space marines. Hmm. What to do? The answer: I have found two v cheap 2nd hand copies of the 3rd edition 40k rulebook which contains the simplest iteration of the rules (can be read in one sitting without the aid of caffeine and a spare brain), and includes what is apparently thought by many to be the most balanced version of the army lists (all in one volume as the 3rd edition was drastically different to the 2nd so that had to include the stats for everything at the time before they came out with separate army codices). Does anyone fancy a trip down memory lane on the 18th July? Do you have a lost and forgotten 40k army somewhere lying about? Army lists included are, Space Marines, Imperial Guard, Orks, Tyrannids, Eldar, Dark Eldar, Chaos Space Marines. Anyone? I can lend you a copy of the rulebook when it arrives. If it helps, I also remember my marines having the aptitude of storm troopers when it comes to shooting things....

You can download Stargrunt II for free & use that too - quite good fun... Not too much customisation methinks. D

My 1000pts of marines for my game on Monday has been not so carefully selected. Can't resist taking 2 rhino apcs even though I'm playing against tyranids! Captain Lysander's detachment, sent to seek out and secure an ancient factory complex which may even contain a Standard Template Construct, if Librarian Bellario's visions are accurate.... The army list: Captain Lysander himself (painted with White armour because my first gw game was space crusade and the captain on the front had white armour...) The stage is set. The planet Mignos VI has just emerged from a long warpstorm. Scans show the planet is teaming with life but none of it is human. The Angels of Redemption chapter is sent to secure any useful tech and purge the now alien planet. Will's tyranids will no doubt have other plans...
