Cor blimey! With that kind of manpower we're technically not an adventuring group any longer, but a small army. Which minor kingdom is up for grabs? Anyway, as Martin suggested, is it managable with that large amount of players? It might be difficult to give everone equal opportunities. In all honesty I speak for myself, that can take a bit of "space", if people didn't know (Joe, Stephen, Dave, Mike and Maurice are probably well aware of this . Mostly because I'm primary into the RPG:ing aspect, and secondary into the dice-rolling. Personally I'd like to play on the first Monday of the month, and could possibly stretch it to a second meeting in a month. Because as most of us I'd like to play some other stuff in a month as well (mainly boardgames, but anyway.) Suggestions then for how to run it: - As it is in a massive gaggle of players. Could be challenging. - Two different groups on seperate occassions. Let's say first and second Monday. - Two GM's, two groups and one date. Needs a bit of co-ordinating between the GM's. At the end of the day it's your call Maurice, but as fired up as people are about this, we probably would like to get this ship launced in the very near future. And I predict a shipwreck as the thing that brought us together. Joe and I can run a protection racket and play good Rogue/ bad Rogue. The Swede.

8 confirmed already plus Graham and I does seem to make for a Warband rather than a group of adventurers.
I don't mind stepping down if you're planning on starting soon as I'm on Honeymoon for the first few weeks of December so won't be coming to the club.

Two groups does seem to make some sense to me, although it depends upon logistics.
The D&D vets and, ultimately, the GM should probably have the final say.

If it is two groups then two issues come to mind: 1/ If Maurice was to DM both then he's got a lot of work to do! 2/ If it is two different DMs then it may be best to do them at the same time? Otherwise it will make organising things around DnD harder as different people will be busy on two nights a month.
Matt: I think the first session is planned for Nov 17th (not suggesting you don't join, just so you know).

I'm in favor of Johns second suggestion, 2 different groups, 2 GM's and on the same day. The question then arises in this case: who'll be willing to ride shotgun on Maurice? Seems like quite a few of us aren't familiar with the rules, so by that logic it narrows down the possibilities considerably.
Another reason why I would prefer two groups is simply because of this: when we gather on the evenings there's a lot of other games going around at the club, and I have personally to say that I sometimes find it hard to concentrate on what the person at the far end of the table just said. With 10+ people I can definately see misunderstandings arise.
Two nights/ month, dividing the players into Team 1 and Team 2 could work, but again as John said, Maurice would have a lot of GM:ing to do indeed!.
Is a go on 17th November confirmed?

Steve M seemed quite proficient with the rules. Fancy heading up group B, Steve ?

Steve M seemed quite proficient with the rules. I think that applies to rules in general Seriously though, if Steve's up for it that sounds like a good idea.

A lot of players are right now checking the sharpness of their implements of destruction and their gear, getting ready for the Legendary (and Rumoured) Grand Meeting on the eve of, not Destruction, but 17th of November. But hold on a second, there's one very important voice that hasn't been heard from so far, not even a squeak! Namely the GM, DM, Head-honcho etc. Maurice!!! Before we all burst open from all of that excitement (I have to confess I really look forward to take Melchior the Tiefling out for a spin), what's your take on it? Have you decided to run all 10+ of us at the same time, divide us into two groups, or two GM's, or do you have other proposals? Maybe we should find out your plans before we even start worrying about wether we play on the 17th or not. P.S. Have everybody finished their character generation btw? I have and found character sheets on www.dnd4.comThe Swede.

I have rolled up my Elf Ranger - haven't named him yet, though. I decided to go with the archer Ranger rather than the two-handed melee jobby. Can't be doing with too much of that unseemly brawling and sweaty grappling you know - all very plebiean - all very ...human (euch).
BTW is it just me or is that character sheet COMPLICATED !!!! ?
I'm steadily working through it. Haven't finished yet, though.
I second Ove's motion (oor err, missus) - let's be hearing from the Dungeon Maurice !
Here's a thought - we could run the dungeon like a coal mine (anyone remember those ?) One shift goes down, does 8 hours monster-slaying, comes up , has a shower and goes t' social club. Next shift heads down the dungeon. The first shift could leave their weapons and armour for the next shift to take over ! The dungeon could be shut on Sundays and bank holidays, of course. We could have ponies or little trollies to take each shift to the monster-face to save travelling time.
Ah, but we could then face competition from open-cast dungeons in the new world. We could live on imported treasure and magic items whilst we settle down to a mature service economy, lending gold pieces and fuelling an unsustainable boom of dungeon ownership....

No worries Martyn, I've kind of already set a road onwards with my character. First stop at Lvl.2 (unless I'm wrong about the rules) is to get the Two-Weapon Fighting Feat! Not for ubergaming purposes other than the general sweet, sweet feeling having two trusty Daggers at your fingertips... ;D
Even though my character's not the biggest, strongest or even best fighter around, he more than makes it up with attitude and underhanded mayhem. NEVER start a fight with the little guy, 300 lbs of sheer aggression in a 140 lbs body! ;D
Wanna play soon!
The Swede.

well acording to my notes we have 8 players which would be doable with some strict time keeping and the apoint ment of a player to manage the initiative track and some of the housekeeping.
I supect that starting on the 17th would be best as i have at43 tomorow
