Hi All Big thanks to Maurice - Really enjoyed tonight. Got me thinking I'd like to try running a one off game of D & D.I've only done bits and pieces before so I could do with the practice. I have a pre written adventure called Treasure of Talon Pass which is for 2nd level characters which would take (i'd estimate) 2 evenings or 1 sunday to get through. Would anyone fancy it? I'd need 5 players (don't think I'd cope with any more). It would obviously be completely separate from Maurice's game but would give a chance to really get to know the rules more and either try out a future build of your character or try something completely different. The adventure is mostly a dungeon crawl with some good traps and monsters. looks like a laugh - It was produced for 2008 rpg day. Anyway just a suggestion! I could run it over two club nights or maybe the 14th dec? Let me know if you're interested, Chris

If I'm not doing anything else (and I probably won't be) then I'd be up for it - more likely on a long Sunday than two Mondays.

*shotgun*
I'd like a place if one is going Chris.
I think we are doing LotOW again on Dec Sunday, but we could always do the same thing as we did with HQ and play 17:30-22:00 and finish it on Mon 15th or 22nd (if required)?

Good stuff - that's three as Diana would like to play too Anyone else? could do with one or two more as 4 or 5 would be best. You can have any class and race from the core players handbook and you'd start at level 2 with 150 gp of equipment, and with one level 2 and one level 1 magic item of your choice (again from players handbook)

Chris
I'm being Robert E. Lee for the day on the December all day Sunday, so will give it a miss, but its good to see the resurgence of role-playing in the club.

Incidently I'm just having a look at the classes I've not played before and concluding the Warlord is a strange and interesting chap.
Take the at will power "commander's strike" for instance - as an at will the warlord can give another member of the party another basic attack which he adds extra damage to rather than attack himself.
Its like using another member of the party as a weapon which is really interesting - it would take a bit of getting used to but could result in some really cool combinations of powers....

Martyn - sorry got engrossed and forgot to reply - no problem let me know if you do fancy a one off game at some point I'm in a really rpg place at the moment in case its hard to guess! I've also got World of Darkness, Exalted and the latest D20 Star wars which are all really good too if any of those appeal to anyone? John - if the others want to be evil too I'm okay with it

Evil sounds interesting....I'm happy either way though. Think I'll try a Wizard of some description for something different.
As for other role playing games - I'm happy to try pretty much anything, because it'll probably be fun.

Sorry my intention was to be a Warlock that hurts things, not evil in the class alignment sense. I don't much mind what alignment.
Warlords do look very interesting, I'm not sure how they work in practice as they obviously combine best with other characters with decent basic damage which seems to mean they would need to be in a big group to justify taking.

I had a very brief butcher's at Graham's Forgotten Realms Player's Handbook on Monday. There seem to be some intriguing new character classes in there. Anyone have more detail what's on offer in that campaign setting ?

Count me in Chris
And I too wouldn't mind play Evil if everybody else does (can be fun being the bad guys once in a while) But if nobody else wants to be baddies, thats OK too
Let me know when your planning to start - just so as I know whether I've got time to do something else during the day

From the previews that Wizards were doing a few months ago, it's mostly a lot of background on the current state of the game world (which they've advanced onwards about 100 years from where it used to be).
You've got some additional player races, Drow and Genasi (kind of like Tieflings but with elementals in your ancestry rather than Devils or Daemons).
I know there is a new basic class, the Sword Mage, which combines some magical power with melee combat ability. I believe they've added some additional Paragon paths and Epic Destinies with a Realms flavour as well.

Good stuff - well I think that makes lthe current state of play as follows: Who:Joe - (possibly wizard) John - (possibly warlock) Diana Mike and Maurice as possible yes (you'd be most welcome!) When:Dec 14th - would like to start as early as possible but if the western showdown is definitely on then 5ish would be ok - we would need extra sessions if we start at 5ish which could be monday 15th and/or monday 22nd. AlignmentIts simpler to be good but as this adventure is mainly a dungeon crawl (ie focuses on the Dungeons and the Dragons (hint) and less on the roleplay) you can play it either way as long as you're all evil or all good (ish). If people felt they might want to carry on with the characters then I'd suggest good as its much easier to DM for and I'm only new at it! But as this is planned as a one off - its up to you. What? With a possible wizard and warlock we'd be looking for at least one defender (fighter or paladin) and ideally a leader (cleric or warlord). Balance would be good for this adventure but whatever is the most fun for people is (as always) best. As I've mentioned previously you'd need to be level 2 (just make a level one and follow the handy instuctions for levelling up once in the players handbook) and you can pick up to 150gp in equipment and in addition one level 2 magic item and one level 1 magic item each of your choice (there's some fun stuff in there by the looks of it). How does that sound? sorry it turned into an essay!
