Hi Everybody,
I'm trying to gauge if it is worth trying to start the Flames of War comp this weekend at the all-day Sunday. If I get enough interest then we may as well start, but if it's only going to be a couple of us then I'd much rather play something else.
Can people please post here if they can make it and are free to play Flames?
Potential players are:
Axis
Me Terry Martyn Derek Barry
Allied
Graham Stephen (Mawson) Steve Wilson Dave Duncan
We've not seen Duncan for quite some time. If he's gone then I will drop out to leave it as 4 vs 4.

I can make it and would like to play Flames of War.
What I might do is also bring a couple of my longer running board games down with me, just in case we don't get enough players to make it worth kicking of the league.

I am not sure if I will be there Sunday as I am away Saturday. Also I am off to New Zealand for a while soon so may be best if I also drop out of this. Sorry!

Hi
im not gone- ive just only got one miniature army to play with so unless FOW is going on i've got nothing to play with:) (unless my hordes of the things army counts if anyone ever plays that- i never did get around to it.
got transferred to another company which has sapped my motivation to do anything after work apart from play battleground europe online at the moment!
i can make it this sunday- although i might need to borrow those 17 pndrs and howitzers for my puny biritsh airborne army please.
Can someone email me to let me know if its on or not?
cheers

Well, weather Mark starts the tournie, or (a good Idea...) we have a day of re aquainting ourselves with the rules, I for one will be there, and will bring all my armies for people to fill in the blanks in thiers. My Brits aren't as comprehensive as my Germans or, especially my US, and I don't have any 17pdr's for them yet. I think that Practising may be a good exercise for the day, as the Warhammer tournie certainly had lots of "practise games" before it started in earnest. Plus it sounds like Mark had thoughts on how else to occupy his time that day! Dave

Oddly enough, I don't have "thoughts" about how to occupy my time on Sunday, I just don't fancy playing Flames. It was Martyn that kept saying that I planned to start at the January all day, not me.
To be honest, I'm a bit bored with Flames at the moment. It's not that I've played too much, it's just that I don't really enjoy playing LW. Plus the more I play - the less I actually like the game, or so it seems. I'm also really annoyed at BF and their Festung/Fortress thing. I guess I'm just going through one of those phases with regards the game.
I'm still happy to organise the comp, but I've decided not to play. Given that Graham is dropping out too - this will leave us with 4 Axis vs 4 Allied, so no problem there. Although I will have to redo the scenario table etc.

We have played Rapid fire, but with 20mm (which there are alot of in the club!) did get a bit bored of it, I must admit, a bit well ....simple and repetative. You soon tire of it. There are some guys who still play the Peter Guilder rules that were derived from the same original rules. As they use a D10 for targeting, and a much improved system for gun/vs armour penn, you do get a better game. A long barrelled 75mm Pz 4 in RF has the same characteristics as an 88,in Rapid Fire. Where as in PG rules, there is a BIG differance, as there should be. Other rules available are Crossfire. This can have any scale, but we have some 28mm's for it. Ahhh... I know the game you mean...with the cards!!! yes some one brought it up the club, years ago, played it once. Dave

Ahh, it just seemed you were thinking of doing something else but felt obligated, was all. Yes I am NOT buying the new Festung, sorry Fortress Europa. I don't see the point, I am quite happy playing with Festung, and if the friends I play also have Festung, why waste the money. The "tidying up" argument doesn't wash, as it wasn't an issue to start with. if it aint broke, don't fix it! seems as you are in a gaming rutt Mark...no FoW no AoR... how about a nice game of chess! I've just taken ownership of a late war Brit FOW army - so I'm keen to give them a run out at some point. Maybe something we can organize Mr Wilkin. Mark have you tried Blitz Krieg Commander? I've played a few games of that using FOW based units and it works very well. Its quite a simplified game but makes for a fun game. I don't think you can have too much of a pop at FOW for the whole Festung thing - heck if that was the case we'd have all stopped playing GW games years a go

Where as I have bought Fortress Europe, although that was at least partly as I was going to get a free copy of Cobra along with it.
I'm happy with some of the alterations they've made to the lists, it ought to make it easier to construct more varied armies at 1,500 points. The cost of most of the tanks has decreased slightly making it a bit easier to field a decent number of them.
Are we still looking at FoW on Sunday, it sounds like we're not, as only three people appear to be interested. If we're not doing this I might look at joining in with Ove's EarthAD game.
