Though neither the Civil War or the armed forces in general is a particular interst of mine, I wonder what colours did the soldiers use in their uniforms? The reason is one of my minis got striped trousers, and instead of painting it in the "boring" blue with yellow stripes, I'd like something different.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it basically work this way?
Artillery- Red with blue stripe. Sharpshooters- Green with yellow stripe. Cavalry- Blue with yellow stripe. Medical- Green?

If you are talking 19th. Century, I think U.S. armed forces wore boring blue trousers and uniforms. Infantry Blue trim Cavalry Yellow trim Artillery Red trim These colours also applied to confederate soldiers. Of course it should be remembered that in the field such details were forgotten. As to sharpshooters, don't know, but I think you are correct for medical troops wearing green trim. But I'm probably wrong.

I would guess most of the minis for western gunfight would be in the 1880's, so 20 odd years after the ACW. this would be the plains wars era. Infantry would have light blue trousers, with a dark blue stripe, cavalry, light blue with a buff stripe. I have a book on US infantry uniforms with a plate depicting troops from the era, if you are interested. Dave

Thanks for the offers, but I decided to go with the more exciting colours of green with yellow trim, I might be wrong but could always pretend it's sharpshooter colours. If I'm wrong it's just a pair of miscoloured trousers found in a raid .
