Well after geting our Warhammer pack (see my other posting) it started me thinking. And we know how dangerous THAT is ! Our club is now getting on a bit, as are the venerable members (you know who you are!). We currently discourage Juniors at our Monday meets, and our Sunday ones they are tollerated if with a parent to keep them in line. What do we think to a little experiment. having another of the Sundays in the month for Juniors? Maybe 12 till 4 or 5pm. The only issue would be an organiser to be there. We certainly have had enquiries from people under 16 who are interested in the club, and it would be a good means of recruiting new members. It may mean revising the UE members Subs to may be £1 a meet (perhapse long overdue in revision anyway). Thoughts? discuss Dave

Dave I am not against the idea but trying to get out two Sundays a month could be pushing my luck. Is there anyway we can get an idea of how many youngsters we are talking about? We did have a Junior club once I seem to remember that Brian and Annie had something to do with it. Is the CRB thing likely to come up? How many people would you need to break even? and would the additional Sundays be open to all memebers? Terry

Yes Terry, all valid points. The thing is, as with all ideas, it would be nice...but ! various permutations of the idea could be to allow under 16's in on our current All Day Sundays. But would our current mature members object? If we had a seperate Juniors day, would the adult members want to come, and if they did would it influence attendance on the adult only sunday? I don't know how many juniors we would get, but I have a feeling that once word got out, we may be supprised. As far as the CRB goes, obviously you will need someone to be in attendance who has one. Tricky, will have to think some more on it. Dave

From what I remember the GCN rules are that you have to have 1 commitee member present for the club to open. Which I think is designed to cover the CRB issue.
If you did start holding a second sunday meeting I'd probably attend.

I'm not totally averse to the idea, and I can certainly see its advantages as a recruitment tool, so in principle I say - go ahead.
My prefered option would be a second Sunday each month, and I'd almost certainly turn out for that.
The issue then is covering the cost of the hall hire, which basically comes done to concession level Subs. Raising that to £1 doesn't sound unreasonable to me (after all, it's been 50p for a very long time), but then again that doesn't effect me at all - what do our current concession members think?
If that's not viable allowing juniors on the current Sunday meets would be OK with me, but I think I might object to alllowing them on Monday evenings (I don't think I want my social life dominated be other peoples anklebiters).

I'm much more inclined towards the options that seperate the open days from normal club nights. But as a seperate event I think it is a fine idea. Obviously my attendance of Sundays has been irregular, and I doubt I would often attend both Sundays in any month. But I would certainly attend a Juniors Sunday where possible.
Going by equivalent clubs £1 (and the difference between that and £0.50) is a very low, I really doubt it would have any bearing on attendance.

I have been exceptionally busy with my new work, of late, and haven't had much chance to follow any of these projects up. However, I have had a chance to go to GW and had a chat to some of the young lads playing there. Admittedly a small sampling, but the feeling from those on the day was mixed to indifferance, good idea in principle, and no thanks I like playing in the shop. When told there was a subscription, there was a cry of "you have to pay?" May be more club attendance at the shop putting on games may be good, and make players aware of who we are and the benefits of membership. Perhapse we will have to make being a member even more appealing (how you can improve on perfection, IS difficult, LOL!) Dave

In GW's defence they have got a lot better at providing for younger gamers, and free is always going to have an attraction of its own. If anything the most likely age group to be interested in a none GW store club is probably 14+ as the mass of younger children starts to become an issue to them.
I certainly agree playing games at the store, especially proper games with decent painted armies (something our club certainly isn't missing) will help raise our profile, and is something I would be happy to be involved in.
Also holding things like a turn up and play tournament on a open Sunday might help. I know many GW stores are happy to organise events with GCN clubs so they might even be willing to advertise and organise people for it.
