Hi Everybody, Please Note - The event will now take place on December 6thAs mentioned at the club a couple of weeks ago; I'm planning to organize a 1-day mini tournament for the December all day Sunday. The proposal is to have a small Warhammer Fantasy Doubles Tournament. I'm still working on the precise rules, but the general idea is as follows. Each player brings a fully painted 750 pt list (Current army books only) *** Partners will be randomly allocated, although some effort may be made to prevent armies from the same race being partnered Three games each - they will be scenario based. Details of the scenarios can be found here: bedfordgladiators.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=decdoubles&action=display&thread=785[*** There will be some composition restrictions and these will be advised shortly. Mostly these will be to limit some of the more bent combinations (Shadestar), and perhaps limit the magic phase] Army composition rules are now here bedfordgladiators.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=decdoubles&action=display&thread=784For this tournament to work we need a multiple of 4 players to sign up, 12 or 16 would be ideal. People seemed keen last week, and Stephen thought some of the Rushden chaps could be interested. To sign up and for details of who has signed up already please see the following thread: bedfordgladiators.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=decdoubles&action=display&thread=786

Sounds very interesting I wouldn't worry too much about limiting magic, random allies make relying on magic rather dangerous anyway (eg. sucks when your ally turns out to be a RoHotek wielding DE army). Probably more important is how you handle unit requirements. Normally a pair of doubles armies can use specials etc allowed in a single army of that size. Obviously this becomes harder when you don't know what your opponent is taking.

My thoughts are to limit specials/rares to 0-2 per 750 pt army, with an additional limit of 0-1 rares. So each 750 army could have 2 Specials, or 1 Special and 1 Rare at the very most. HE would be an exception. That should limit some of the potential extremes.

I'm not too worried either way, as long as everyone is playing with the same limits. That said I'd be tempted to make it 2 Special OR 1 Rare. The temptation to take a Stank/Hydra/Ancient Stegadon is pretty great even if it stopped you taking any special. If taking a rare doesn't have a downside then most teams will end up with 2 rares in their 1500pts... Personally, I'm perfectly happy playing monsterhammer and it can be a real laugh ;D it just depends if that is what you are after.

We need to be careful here that we don't inadvertantly cripple some armies but not others so we need to think VERY carefully about what, if any, restrictions we impose.
Personnally, I don't think we need any. After all, there is only so much you can do with 750 pts.
I guess that Mark is worried it might turn into either herohammer, monsterhammer or some combination of the two. This is clearly a possibility but, as John suggested, that can be fun too (hmm, Dragon Mage of Caledor -- very silly, but could be a laugh ;D ;D).
I think we first need to decide how seriously (or otherwise) we want to take this. If all we want is a silly knock-around (which would certainly be my preference), I don't think we need any extra rules.
That said, pretty much happy with whatever we do. So what do the rest of you think?

This could be a nice way for me to sample WH Fantasy and get some Skaven up and running once the army book is out in just over a week or so. My only reservation is I'm not sure how much painting 750 points is going to involve, I just hope I can get it all done!

My only reservation is I'm not sure how much painting 750 points is going to involve Depends on the army you're using For skaven, quite a lot -- they have large blocks of very cheap troops

I'm pretty close to posting a draft of the army list building rules. Hi Mark Have you made any decision on these rules yet? If so, can you post so we can discuss them please? Mike
