This Sundays game ( yes it's the All Dayer!) is Flames Of War,we are using the Big Battle rules," TOTAL WAR" (download from the FoW website). I have just finished my 3rd Cromwell troop, to complete my British armoured squadron, and 2 M10 17pdr's....now to think up a scenario, and read the rules! Dave

Haven't played Flames for a while now. Who's playing, and do you have room for an additional player?

I havent ventured down to the shed to read the rules yet, but it sounds like we could field a large 7th armoured formation if we could come up with a sensible scenario.

Any thoughts on points, or are we just bringing everything we've got down and sorting it out on the day?

I have thought on what to do for tommorrow, I think we could loosely base a game on the falaise pocket, with British on one side and US on the other with Germans in the middle. We would have a T shaped table, with the US on one arm of the T the Brits on the other, and the Germans trying to stop the allies linking up at the foot of the tee. Yes I have enough for a squadron of British armour, and 2x3 squad platoons of armoured infantry, with an inf HQ fully tooled up with Mortars. I also have 6 pdr AT guns and HMG platoon, together with 4 sexton SP arty with full staff, and 2 x17 pdr M10 tank destroyers. Together with Terrys Brits we should be able to field a large battlegroup. For the other side of the table I have a large US armoured Coy, an armoured inf coy (2 full platoons) and a very large Ranger Coy (4 platoons) together with M7 priest battery of 6 guns, M10 tank destroyers, 4 gun105mm field battery, and 3 Thunderbolt ground attack aircraft, and sundry other units. The Germans may be a little outnumbered by this massive allied force (as would be historicly correct) but combined with Terrys German units I am sure we can make a good fight of it. I plan to finalise available units on the day, and allocate commands, of which we should easily get 2 from each army,so making a possable 6 slots for players, although we could increase this possably if required ( Support units,Arty and so on, for example are grouped together in thier own command!). So the basic premise for the game is a German fighting withdrawal, with victory points allocated for units successfully withdrawing off the base of the "T". to stop the germans retreating too speedily, we will delay the turn they can start withdrawing. This can be historicly be justified as Hitler was notorious for ordering no retreat, when the situation clearly warranted it on the ground! Dave

Ok, that's fine, so where do my Russian's fit in? Or am I using them as proxy Germans?

You could command another force, Germans? Americans? Brits? we were organising this as a western front scenario as we have the most miniatures available for the scale of game planned. If we get more Russian stuff available we can do an Eastern front big game another time. Dave

Pity, I was rather looking forward to actually using all of my Russian Tanks at once for the first time ever.
Make it German's, I have a couple of Tigers, some Panzer IV's, and a couple of 88's that are more or less ready for play, even if the rest of my German's are still in bits.
