Hello All
Its fair to say that board and card games have now taken over almost all of my gaming time. I just love them! As a result, I've started to listen to quite a few board game podcasts and thought I'd share what I think are the best ones in case that's of interest to anyone else.
Also as I know there's quite a few board gamers at the club I thought it would be a great way of checking whether I'm missing one that's really good!
So without further ado here's my top choices so far:
1) Shut up and Sit Down - a video podcast which is in my opinion as brilliant as it is insane. Great reviews which get to the heart of a game without a boring rules explanation surrounded by a brilliant and imaginative sense of humour: www.shutupshow.com/
2) The Dice Tower - this is essentially an audio board / card game 'magazine' show with lots of quick reviews and different interesting segments from different contributors. Highly recommended for its gentle banter and a great way to keep up to date with what's going on in games. There are also a whole host of video reviews which are always informative and useful for working out if a game is for you. www.dicetower.com/
3) How to Play Podcast - audio or video podcasts where each episode offers up a suggestion of how best to teach a particular game to new players. Really useful if you want a reminder of how a complex game works or if you are introducing it to new players. Also gives good basic strategies for each game to get you started: howtoplaypodcast.com/
4) Game On! with Cody and John - sadly now into its last few episodes but this is an audio podcast where the two presenters gently chat about the recent games they've played and choose a trend or topic in gaming to discuss. Also normally includes an in-depth review of a single game. gameonpodcast.com/
5) Little Metal Dog Show - An audio podcast made up of interviews with games designers and publishers about their experiences, their games and how they got into them. Particularly interesting if the interview is about a game you love: littlemetaldog.com/
6) D6 Generation - if you can get past the endless sponsor adverts this is an entertaining behemoth of a podcast. It covers miniature games and role-play games too. I'm still getting into this one but I particularly love the beginning rant in the form of an unreasonable quiz: www.thed6generation.com/
So there you go - my top 6. All apart from shut up and sit down are available on iTunes too.
Hope that's useful rather than telling you all stuff you already know. Am I missing any other good ones out there?
All the best
Chris
