Hello to everybody that I chatted with (albeit sometimes briefly) last night when I dropped into the club for the first time. It was nice to be invited in so warmly and I'll try to get along as often as I can, real-life willing.
As a couple of people asked and I probably burbled something incoherent, I've been wargaming on-and-off for about 25 years (mostly Warhammer when I was younger) but in recent years have been chiefly involved with the 7TV game by Crooked Dice, which is a skirmish game drawing inspiration from James Bond, cult 60s and 70s television, etc. They've just released a beta version of the 2nd edition rules for free download and I'm supposed to be doing some proper playtesting so I may well inflict that upon any who are interested.
Beyond that, I'm getting into Chain of Command, a WWII platoon-level game, by TooFatLardies and wouldn't mind a game or two of that at some point (once I've got stuff painted ... I'm getting there slowly ...)
Outside of that, my wife and I are both live roleplayers, tabletop roleplayers (although not for some years now) and like a bit of boardgaming too, especially the co-operative games like Pandemic.
Hope to see you all again soon!
Morgan

Hi there Morgan, and welcome to the club – we are always happy to meet new people
Most of us are always up for trying a game or system, so you'll find all that and more here – and if you don't you can be sure that someone would like to give it try, so feel free to bring along any games you'd like to try out
Good to hear that your better half is also a gamer, so please feel free to bring her along – we maintain an open invitation to any and all games who wish to join in
We are not just a wargaming club, in fact roleplaying is probably at least as big – we're currently into Pathfinder in quite a big way, but we have also played Runquest and D&D 3/3.5 extensively plus occasional forays into other systems (traveller, star wars, etc)
And board games are also popular, being something of perennial standby
Also, we normally have an all-day Sunday event on the 2nd Sunday of the month – midday to 11pm – same subs as for the Monday evenings and all included in the membership
So, look forward to seeing you both in future
Regards Mike

Good afternoon and welcome to the club, I have been a member for a few years and always endeavour to get down for a game and a laugh, work and RL providing of course. I would hereby formally like to voice my interest in 7TV, I am pretty much a skirmish gamer as far as wargames go and I don't take things too seriously, the main thing is to have fun, and 7TV is a system I have had my eyes on for a while. I predominantly play old west (Dead Man's Hand you might've seen in action Monday or the excellent Six Gun Sound), Lovecraftian Horrors (Strange Aeons), superheroes (Power Legion), Zombies survival (Two Hour Wargames mix-up rules), and my personal favourite, Post-Apocalyptic (pretty much any system goes). But saying that I am playing just about anything as long as it's FUN and a bit of a laugh. I have played RPG's for the past nearly 30 years, not so much these days, but I would LOVE to start up a Chill 3rd ed. game at some point, don't know if you are familiar with the game but I think Matt and I can fill you in if you are interested. There's usually some stuff going on in the corner as Matt and I are rolling out whatever springs to mind, and there's usually some space for anyone to jump into a game. We have (this past year) inflicted these games upon our unsuspecting fellow members: Upscaled Car Wars skirmish game Jousting with large toy knights Imperial Teddybears vs. Dinosaurs (that was a hoot!!!) Once again, WELCOME!!! Ove, the resident Swede

Although, being of foreign persuasion I am not familiar with Blakes 7, only saw about 5 minutes in passing when Brian BLESSED was mentioned. I have heard much good about the rules and the miniatures certainly looks the proverbial dog's dangling bits!!! I was more into cop shows (the Professionals was quite popular in my neck of the woods and I vaguely remember Shoestring, don't think The Sweeny ran, but I enjoyed Life on Mars which is a kind of homage to those shows of yesteryear, but now I digress!!!). Ove.

Thanks, Ove, I'll see what I can do about knocking a demonstration game together in the near future for the new (in beta test) 7TV 2nd edition rules. Which, by the way, you can download for free from here: www.crooked-dice.co.uk/ (follow your common sense to get to the actual download bit). I greatly enjoy the 1st edition but the regular 'complaint' was that it took a bit too long to prepare a game. 2nd edition aims to cure that and it'll be a good test of the lads' changes to see if it survives contact with people who've never actually played it before.

You are welcome Morgan, and I would very much look forward to a demo game when time and opportunity permits . I shall apply my common sense and have a Desmond at the rules in the meantime. Down at the club we have a little saying: "combat debut", which usually is used in the context of a brand new model that hasn't seen action yet, but I think it also could be applied to the rules that have never seen use OR abuse by 'rookies' !!! What setting are you planning on using, not that it matter much, just curious. Ove.

Ah yes, Servalan – conquering planets, massacring entire populations, and generally terrorising half the galaxy – and in an event gown In those days the villains had style

Yes Blakes7 - such style, such great characters, some superb dialogue and creaky props and backgrounds! Servalan! Wonderful character and what an actress Jacqueline Peirce is - and she looks so good! Gave me a wigwam! Of course if they remake B7 Morena Baccarin has to be a shoo in for Serverlan Alas though that Wormhole X-Treme! would make a good candidate for thease rules

well Maurice that proves how ignorant i am (in many ways!) as i have no idea what any of that means!

Morena Baccarin played Inara in Firefly and was also in Homeland and some other stuff (I had to Google to remember the name). You're absolutely right: she'd look perfect for the role. "Wormhole X-Treme!" was the show-within-a-show from a couple of episodes of Stargate SG1, a pretty good send-up of themselves, it must be said.
I also realise that I never replied here about what setting I might use for a 7TV game. The answer is: I'm not quite sure. I have a bunch of models in various states of (un)paintedness. I just need to pull them together properly for some 'casts' for a game. The fortunate thing is that you can use almost any scenery, the "English village green" being a typical venue for early episodes of The Avengers, Dr Who, etc.

Although, being of foreign persuasion I am not familiar with Blakes 7, only saw about 5 minutes in passing when Brian BLESSED was mentioned. It's all on YouTube as far as I can see, still good viewing now (if you ignore the wobbly sets) Blakes 7D
