Gentlemen,
Is there going to be an official club craze this year? In the past we've had WAB and FOW so I was just wondering. The Danes are nearly finished and I'm looking to collect a new, smallish army. But I want to be sure of an opponent as I have a number of opponent less armies. I was thinking about ECW Covenanters, (using Warlord plakkies.), but, having seen the images, am not that sure any more. Also thought about 7 years war, but I believe this is well covered, so I'm open to sensible, i.e. non fantasy, suggestions.
I leave to floor to you...

There are alot of fantasy, or more specificly Sci Fi crazes at present. 40K and AT-43. However, there are some moves in the Field of Glory 15mm side of things, and I am still slowly buiding my WAB Egyptians and Hittites. Beond that, who knows the whims of the membership! Dave

Discounting Daves WAB (as he's crazed all on his own), he's right AT-43 and 40K seem to be the main interests at the moment. I'm not convinced FOG is that much of a craze as yet. I think the point being is that the club is far more diverse and therefore there is not really a clubwide craze.
I hope that makes sense.
Personally I'm hoping War of the Rings takes off ;D

However, there are some moves in the Field of Glory 15mm side of things LOL - One FOG game at the club does not make a craze. Dave, you are such a spin-doctor. Have you ever considered a career in politics?

To answer seriously. I suspect this years crazes are likely to be SF or Fantasy. For Fantasy I see that being "War of the Ring", and for SF it will be 40K and perhaps Secrets of the Third Reich.
I don't see there being a WAB craze. Indeed I'm concerned about the future of WAB. Not at the club, but as a game system. There's not been a new release for some time and last week Warhammer Historical made Rob Broom redundant, passing the whole historical line on to Forgeworld!
I quite like the look of the Warlord ECW stuff - but will wait to see them in the flesh. The big problem still remains the lack of a decent set of rules. Maybe the "Black Powder" set might prove to be worth a look.

I must admit the Black Powder Rules will have an impact on my purchases post War of the Ring. If the rules are any good then I could be going down the road of ECW or even Naps as their is an increasing amount of plastic either out or due out for both. Of course if the rules are pants I'll be sticking to the ol' favorites and invest in a new 40K army.

Daveb
I'm always looking for opportunitoes to get my 7YW Prussians on the table, having missed out on the SYW craze which swept the club umpteen years ago. My figs (as you've seen) are based for Age of Reason, but I'm still thrashing around for a more satisfactory set of rules.
Matt and I have been keeping a keen eye on the Warlord plastic ECWs, but I have to agree that the latest piccies look disappointing compared with earlier teasers.

P.S
I have no idea what an 'opportunitoe' is - before any one asks.

Martyn; The AoR is not yet over; Graham and I played a game on the last Sunday meeting. We did discuss the options for a larger game using his and Daves Russians plus mine and your Prussians. We were flying through the turns as we got into an infantry fire fight and we had excluded cavalry from our game apart from a unit of Hussars each who managed to get into a melee that lasted most of the game. Terry,
What size units do you have in AoR? I mean number of models per battalion? I have an inclination to do Bavarians for 3 reasons, pretty blue uniforms, pretty flags and no cavalry. Apparently they fought alongside the Austrians in the early part of the war, but my information on this is far from complete. Thanks in advance, Dave.

12?, 12? that's too small. I'll have to think again. Still have lots of unpainted WAB lead, but it's such a faff gluing the b~ggers together and then loose half a dozen spears and shields. As for War of the Ring, I have lots of figures I'm prepared to sell.

Dave the other option in the rules is to double up the infantry to 24 in two ranks it does look better but of course it is some what more expensiive.Terry
