Chaps
I know your going to hate this but its got to be said ....
Please ...
1. Try and keep the upstairs storage area in a reasonable state. I know its getting harder to get at stuff because we have got so much, but do keep it tidy. Leave enough time to pack up your game on games night and put the stuff back nicely. Recently several nice items of terrain have become damaged due to carelessness. 2. The room where we play our games - please put the chairs and tables back nicely - dont just leave the place in a mess like it was last night. I know that sometimes we go up to the room and its not in the ideal state (having had a function in there) but we dont own the room. So, put your chairs and tables back in order. Also, if you get drinks from the bar, it is your responsibility to take the glasses back to the bar, to clear away the coke cans etc.
We have got to be really careful with this guys - we don't want to offend the North End Club - we have a good deal going there with the storage and the low rental of the room so lets keep it nice for them.
Thank you
Steven

I would concur with Steven's comments. Often it is the committee or other members who stay to gone 11pm to pack up or take empties back to the bar, this is not our job, please ensure you sort your own tidying up. A good rule of thumb is to plan on completing your game and packing away at 1030 on a Monday. Obviously board games don't take as long to clear, but none the less, we only rent the room untill 11pm,and should be out of the door by then. Also, remember that alot of the terrain may belong to individual members, not the club. I am sure you would be annoyed if a piece you had worked hours to produce were damadged. Even club stuff, has been lovingly moddeled, often to a high standard by members donating thier time and skill. It is a shame to see it damadged needlessly due to hurried carelessness, and costs us all money to replace. Thankyou ladies and gentlemen. Dave Wilkin Secretary

Chaps, Once again it is unfortunate that ive got to mention this BUT ...
Please respect that the gaming equipment in the store room is fragile. I am now rather tired of finding my own, other members equipment and the club's property put back poorly - much of the stuff has its own box, clearly labelled yet i keep finding stuff just bunged into any old box. I have had to fix quite a few things recently and im tired of it. Some of you might not see this as a priority. 'He's the just the WW2 gamer and i dont use the same stuff'. Well, lots of my stuff gets used in your games - might be something like a oil tank, some palm trees, a bunker. What ever it is, please look after it. Doesn't matter who it belongs to!
Leave enough time at the end of the evening to pack things away, dont just chuck the stuff in a plastic tub and leave it. Can i suggest that we all start packing up by 10.40 latest?
It is all our responsibility to keep the place tidy and look after the lovely terrain and members figures!
Thank you

To add to what steve is saying, alot of the terrain for 40K was poorly cleared away, last meeting, 2 buildings were not even in the grey boxes, but upstairs just haphazardly lobbed in a box. Please I must remind you, all the 40K buildings are my own stuff, paid for and painted by me. If I feel that my gear is not safe, I will take it home. Dave

I feel I really must chime in and applaud Steven on this issue.
He and Peter do a sterling job looking after all the kit stored upstairs, whether it belongs to them, the club or any other member, and I do not believe the rest of us show them anywhere near enough appreciation for their efforts.
On Monday Steven returned several items he had taken home the week before to repair, these having been damaged whilst in club possession, as well as bringing in a beautiful church (20-25mm scale) that he himself had purchased for use by club members.
Noboby asked him to do this, he just did it, and I think we should all applaud his efforts.
Add to this that some members seem to pay very little attention to how they clear any and store scenery at the end of the evening, as evidenced by the mess the storage cupboard periodically gets into, I can fully understand why Steven is forever complaining about this.
While we all appriciate that there is only a limited amount of storage space and an awful lot of kit to be packed into it, surely it is not beyond our capabilities to maintain at least some semblance of order.
It doesn't take that much effort and it benefits us all in the long run.
So come on boys, show a little consideration and, at the very least, pack your scenery away as tidily as possible.
Mike

Cheers Mike. I know i get boring about this and do bring it up at the AGM but we do have to do something about our storage problem quickly. The shelving i put up over 10 years is collapsing now. Can i suggest to the committee that we ask permission of NE club and buy some of those easy to assemble shelving units and get em up. Im more than ahppy to help out with this!
Forwards onto victory!

Gents,
You need some propritary shelving for the smaller boxes, and some bespoke shelves for the bigger boxes and gaming tiles.
Shelving would protect the scenery and minatures, also it would make it easier to find want you want to use. Plus stuff could be organised into areas, so the smaller scale stuff could be together, space stuff together etc.
a few 5 tier shelves, a bit of 2x2 and ply would do it...

right - good man - so lets hold our hands up - who is going to help with this? I think our first step has got to be asking the NE club, especially if we are going to get power tools out.

I'll put my hand up to help. Perhaps I'm not the most reliable "helper" as I'll probably be working on the day it's decided to do the deed, but the heart is willing.

Is it worth a look in the Home Store near Wicks; they are closing down; they certainly have plenty of storage boxes in all sizes; I cant remember if they had any useful shelving units?

Thought I'd pipe up and say that we recently bought a bunch of these to store models and scenery in at home (as well as all kinds of other stuff). www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/S19819557They are a bit like the drawers you used to get in primary school. They're handy in the sense that the drawers are storage boxes but go into a drawer unit so you don't have to stack them. The drawers come in different depths are quite cheap and sturdy and you can buy lids for them too. A few of these units might be ideal for trees, smaller buildings and the models / figures we keep. And they're easy to put together. Not as cheap as homemade shelves I grant so feel free to ignore but thought I'd suggest it!

Gents, A little sketch can be done showing what is possible. All shelving would be independant so no fixing to building structure. Also if the timber for the bigger shelves is bought from jewsons they can cut it up to the size we want, and then its just a case of assembly. The 5 tier shelves are about £20 each from Wickes. I think 2 of these are required to go next to the plastic shelving, removing the smaller shelves.
The principal of what Steve did previously in the corner whereby 2 tall/deep shelves are put in place, so that the gaming tiles can sit vertically on the shelf allowing easy access and egress. Also the bigger bocage/hill boxes could sit on these.
The boxes that the scenery is in are perfectly acceptable. The issue is stacking. Currently most boxes are stacked on each other, so that you have to move a box to get to a box. which is laborious and promotes stuffing boxes where ever they fit syndrome. With the advent of proper shelving stacking is reduced to a minimum, plus a bit of signage would identify where specific scenery is rather the adhoc names on boxes method currently employed. Also its an easier visual aid for putting things back in the right place.
If all the materials cost £100 it would be an excellent investment, to help protect scenery and making selection and storing far easier, which helps the members who make the scenery and saves time for all members...
my 2 pence... I am more then happy to organise said timbers and assemble. We just needs some bods to help move scenery, to allow installation of shelves, plus populating the shelves once fitted.
