The cart got the boot my main worry about dropping it was losing Balefire, but I conned myself into believing another Scroll would make up for that ¬_¬

HE's can spend 620 max on heroes @1500* Dragon Mage, L2, +50 pts of shiny stuff = 435 Mage, L2, +50 pts of shiny stuff = 185 3 standard L2's max out at 185 each or 555 in total - Which is about the norm for other armies maxed out Heroes. * - I'm not saying they should

Pft Vamps Laugh at 620 max, I can spend 385 on a single Hero (Mannfred on Abyssal Terror with Skull Staff). Maximum for Vamps is I think... 825 points of heroes at 1500, although that possibly is a little ott.

Vamp, + 50 Bloodlines, + 50 Shiny stuff, + Hellstead = 220 Mannfred as above = 385 = 925 - ho hum!

Actually Mark I can spend 201 pts on a standard Lvl2 Mage basic cost:100, upgrade to lvl2:35, Items:50, mounted on barded elven steed:16
So, in theory, I could spend 603 point on three mages And that's not including the Banner of Sorcery

Can't match those vamps though - not on a 1500pt list (I'd need to throw in an archmage or two, which ain't legal until 2000pts)

Mark: Add in two units of 22 Zombies (200 inc Com) and 6 Wraiths plus Banshee, and you've got an army

I think I might be playing the wrong game here. The total cost of all three of my characters, plus all my special and rare choices only weighs in at around 550 points. That's less than the cost of John's hero's!

You should have known that in advance. After all, you are playing Skaven and "Life is cheap" ;D

I'd make comments about the under-priced nature of Lightning generating Warlock Engineers, but it's been done to death Still quite a scary fact that it out prices everything BUT your troops

Hmmmmmm having seen John blow his own magic users heads off last week perhaps 610 points and hoping for aggressive magic is not the right idea? I'm going for people with pointy sticks not pointy hats. Read Pratchett and the Elric books (I love what the posting system does to that authors name!) and you will see magic is a two faced friend even at the best of times?

I'm just trying to work out where all this Magic has come from. From my rather iffy memory . . . Last year we had: Woodies = L2 and L1, 5PD/4DD + Bound Treesing Skaven = 3 Warp Engineers, 8PD/5DD + Storm Daemon Dwarves = Runesmith, 2PD/6DD (inc Rune of Balance) Orcs = 2 x L2 6PD/4DD + Itty Ring Dwarves = Runesmith, 2PD/5DD (did John have Rune of Balance too) Empire = L2 + WP, 4PD/4DD, Doomfire Ring + Prayer TK = 2 Priests + Tomb Princess (too hard to work out) + Bound Item HE = L2 (can't really remember this army) VC = 2 Necros 6PD/4DD None of those strike me as too much and the biggest was the Skaven. This time around the same Skaven magic build looks like it won't even appear in the top-3 for power Can't really remember the Scrolls people had. Although I had 2, Stephen had 3 and I don't think Dave's Vamp or the two Dwarves had any. Terry didn't either, but he did have the spelleater item - so that counts as one. Who started the powerslide

I did have MRoBalance as well so yes 6DD (-1PD as well, so equivalent to 7DD really).
I think the main thing that shows is that magic defence was strong last year. If anything I would say it was the heavy anti-magic that has led to it, as moderate magic isn't worth fielding against most lists in our group.
It then becomes a feed back loop, players need to bring more magic to pass the magic defence, and then people need more magic defence. It seems that most players feel one magic user can't provide sufficient magic defence, and if you are going to buy two then why not use them for offence.
I expect the change is also due to people building better lists, as you correctly state Steves army was probably the most magically capable last time, but I would say that it was also one of the best designed. On top of which the new VC book and HE book weren't around last year.
