Slightly disappointed in the quality of the two different brands of yellow paint I've tried (Vallejo Game and GW). The Vallejo was too runny in composition and the GW is difficult to get a good coating with even after two applications. The difficulty might be that I use black undercoat, but all the other colours work nicely (except for red which is a bit of b-tard but after two applications even that is acceptable). I like the Vallejos drop bottles but in contrast to the yellow my white is far too thick and even thinned out it's difficult to get an even application that's streak-free. Any recommendations or have I just happened to get bad samples of the colours?
Really looking forward to get my 8 minis from HLBS's 40mm Old West and Spaghetti western range painted. Done 7 of Reapers Chronoscope figures so far this year that I'm fairly happy with. They've got a nice The Outlaw Josey Wales mini...
Shall say hi from my family, we're a bit under the weather all of us at the moment but otherwise fine. Might be opportunity to pop down to club sometime later in the year...
Cheers,
Ove.

I find GW yellow works well if you go over your black undercoat with Tau Sept Ochre before layering on the yellow. The TSO is in the GW foundation range so carries a bit more pigment.

Thanks Martyn. I shall give that a try next time I'll paint yellow.

I'd go two further as it were. I'd use TSO, then a Sunburst Yellow/TSO 50/50 mix. Then Sunburst Yellow and for the extreme highlights Sunburst mixed with Bleached Bone or just Bleached Bone on its own.

Red and Yellow are always a challenge, the foundation that Martyn suggests is good but if you want something bright you should try a white undercoat. You can add an ink wash over the top which really lifts the colour. If you can get hold of any Plaka (sorry about the spelling) paint their red and yellow will cover a black undercoat but you have to be careful if you use a brush on varnish as it will lift the paint.

The Wargames Workshop in Cranfield carries P3 paints made by Privateer Press, the ccompany behind Iron Kingdoms RPG/ Warmachine /Hordes.
If you are one for celebrity endorsements, then I believe Mike Mc Vey of 'Eavy Metal/ GW fame acted as advisor when designing the complete range of paints, tools, brushes, etc.
