Matt /Dave
To confirm, we agreed another Napoleonics game for Monday 5th, yes ?
Matt, could you helpfully post the units to be used like you did for last week's ? My British are for the Waterloo period, but I have yet to get any Dutch/Belgians. I have c. 8 infantry battalions, 4 cavalry regts. and 4 guns. If I need skirmishers I could base up the rifleman I used last week. What are the appropriate base sizes ?
Cheers Martyn

Dave
If Matt can't come on Monday, as its bank holiday, do you fancy trying 'Age of Eagles' rules for our Napoleonics ?

Martyn, Yes another Naps game would be good for Monday. I would like to get a better feel for EdC (yes another 3 letter rules!) before confusing my head completely with another system! And I would not like to comment on base sizes untill we are settled with the system we are likely to use regularly. But if you are pushing to get them done, I would go for 2 figures on the frontage taken by 4. Dave

I'll drag out the rule book later. When you say a battalion - how many bases per battalion?
I'll work out a list for you tomorrow.
Dave, as you have the rule book are you ok with doing your own? Are you going to use the French Waterloo list?

OK Mat, I will sort out my French, not too difficult after all! I assume we are using 12 castings to a battalion, as we did last week? (so 3 of my 4 figure bases) Dave

Matt
My 'battalions' are of varying sizes (as they are brigades in AoE), but I only have 8 infantry command stands. My smallest battallions have 20 figures (on 5 stands) and the most have 32 on 8 stands.

How many stands of Brits do you have then? And Cav?
Thing to do would be to have two brigades of 4 Infantry Battalions, I Brigade of two Cav, Plus Division support Artillery, 1 Div Commander, and 3 Brigadiers.
If you can give me the number of bases I can work out what class of troops you should have.
If we're struggling for numbers we can bump them up to higher grade troops.
I won't be coming this evening as I'm being dragged out a 20 mile walk and I got beaten by Dave's Orc and goblin Army last night so the shame is just too much!!!
We won't even talk about how a unit of Night Goblins defeated my Minotaurs or how his giant managed to fend off my Shaggoth! So anybody want a large chaos army!!
Matt
(Just kidding was a good fun game, just goes to show you can buy all the fancy shiny 25th anniversary dice you like and sometimes it just doesn't help!)
[Next time I'm taking a greater Demon muahahahhahahaha]

... that's 4 figures to a stand, of course, so c. 90 in EdC terms.

Cheers Martyn, I'll crack on with that then.
I'll either post it on here or give the list to Dave. (or both!)

Martyn, Gather things didn't go too well Shame I couldn't be there to assist. I'd agree while heartedly that the rules are badly written though. The commander system is key to the whole game and in this Nap version its very badly written. The ACW version uses the same system but its much much better explained (although still not great). I had the advantage of one of the key contributors showing me how to play. The impression I always get is that the people that play test are quite close to the author and are used to the rule systems. Personally I think the rules would benefit from being re-written by non-academics with examples. As it stands though I think the rules work well once you understand them - the trick is to understand them ;D I'm expecting alot from the black powder rules being produced by warlord games in conjunction with Jervis Johson and Rick Priestly. Have you ever tried Grand Armee? I read some good reports about that. Matt

www.sammustafa.com/fpga.htmlFree rules what more could you ask - by the looks of this the Fast Play rules would be suitable for an evening and the main rules suitable for a Sunday. No idea if anybody else has played these.

Mmmm... yes, we did kind of throw the towel in ! I know what Trevor must have been thinking: "I don't know if thick people play my rules, frankly I don't want to know, I can do without their sort playing my rules !"
Happy to give the 'fast play' Grand Armee ago. I still fancy Age of Eagles myself. There must be a rule set out there to suit us all... isn't there !?
