Despite a certain apethy from members, I think letting such an auspicious occasion as our 35th anniversary pass without comment would be a sin against the dice gods!! apart from which it would be a fun day I think. Here is the plan, subject to approval, from you ...and the North end club. One day next year, a Saturday, or a Sunday, whichever proves the best. We have, to all intents and perpouses an open day, at our venue. We hire not only upstairs, but the main lounge as well, we invite a few choice tradestands, and some other clubs to put on games. We ask the GCN if they would like to participate, get Duncan from Wargames Illustrated mag to take pikkies. Ask our old members to come along and visit, maybe Henry from Battlegames could put on a game (John Priest from the Old School Wargamers is an old member after all). Dust off pictures and videos of our past exploits, get out the trophies. Basicly have a self indulgent Gladiator fest and show people what a great club we are,!! Oh and a good excuse to have some shirts printed for the occasion, GLADIATOR XXXV. could get the local papers involved too.... Huzzah Dave

I'm in favour of that plan Dave, we'd like to keep the DG's on our side, preferably more on mine than anyone elses. Is the whenabouts known or will it be disclosed at a secret location only after certain codewords have been exchanged and verified? The Swede.

Dave; I think its a good idea lets make an early approach to the NE club to see if they are willing to let us the space and at what cost. They could even profit from it if they put on a bar and food during the day. Once we have the venue then we can start to approach the local clubs and traders. Then we can worry about table space and car parking. Terry

Well, Ove, the when is the thing!! I think a summer date is best, more daylight hours, nicer atmos than dreary winter. The trick is to place it in a weekend without a show on, so we are likely to attract the presence of some traders. Ideas there were, Wargames Workshop, Gamers, Wargames Illustrated, Parkfield Miniatures (they were at the Letchworth show) and maybe one more, each on a stand no more than 6x4 or so,so we have space. Clubs..Phoenix, of course, Huntingdon, Milton Keynes, Black Wolf, Luton, Dunstable. We will have to think on tables we have of course(I have 2 off 6' x2'6" tables) . I don't know on cost, but maybe looking at 3 or 400 Also on policyof non North End club members dropping in, although it will do thier advertising good, I think! Especially if one of the local papers does a blurb. Dave

Is the North End club big enough for all this?

Yup I'm up for it!
Mark I've been to wargames shows that were in smaller venues - I'm sure if we had the whole of the club we would have plenty of space.

I'm just not sure they rent it all out, or if they do then whether they will rent it out on an exclusive basis.

As I have said I think it is a good idea to try and celebrate our 35 years and using the club would be a good venue. But there is no point in getting to carried away with this idea until we approach the NE Club its self and see what they are prepared to offer. I am still not sure that they will be prepared to give up all the space; after all they do have there own members to consider. Also I didn't really think that we were talking about a show as such; just a local event for local clubs. We can invite traders but I wouldn't think that we could charge them as they are unlikely to make much. Therefore any cost for hiring the club will have to be met by the us. Terry

I'm with Terry on this one. I don't want the club to spend £300+ putting on what would effectively be a small wargames show. I'd rather we spent our money on hiring the room for a whole weekend, so we could plan and play a really big game or games.

Well just ask the NE before we get to carried away.
If they say yes, no problemo we can put it to the vote and see what people want to do.
If they say no then end of debate and a new celebration can be devised.

Let the committee sort it out and tell the rest of us what's going to happen ... that's democracy in action. That's why we elect people to high office.
