Does anyone have a 1/300th 1980s Warsaw pact army they would like to bring out of moth balls, dust off and take on my 1984 British with the Cold War Commander rules ? I used to play Matt Beech's Russians, but he seems to have retired from the forum....'s funny... I thought we had to stay with the forum now until we are 68 !
I haven't got a particular club meeting in mind as yet, just want to make contact with an interested parties.

Many years ago we all had these sorts of armies but Barry had the best - a massive Soviet force including a battalion of T90's (designed by Skytrex BEFORE anyone knew what they looked like - these resemble M1s, and of course the real thing looks nothing like that tank). He also had a super Belgium force with Scorpians, Scimiters, Strikers, Gepards, Leopard 1s etc. I had a British Battle group with Chally 1s. Barry's stuff was super. I did have an Arab Israeli force but that went some time ago.
Peter and I have thought babout doing a 1980's bash in 20mm. He has a number of West German vehicles and I have a number of Soviet ones. I must admit i have toyed with the idea of doing 1/300th modern again but with poor eyesight havent done much about it so far ha ha!

My lot are almost exclusively Heroics & Ros, which now look a bit lumpen compared with the sculpted magnificence of the GHQ 1/285 stuff. That's why I have got some Challenger Is to go with my bucket loads of Chieftains...'cos they looked so good I thought it would be rude not to ! I've also got a couple of Lynx attack helicopters that need building and painting, and some Chieftain bridge laying tanks. I have a hankering to try the contested river crossing scenario in the CWC rule book. All my stuff is based up for Modern Spearhead whih emphasises armour and has the infantry based with their APCs so that they are assumed to be in or out of their vehicles depending on the tactical situation they find themselves in. Keep meaning to get some Russians of my own, but as I only have eyes for GHQ now there's always something more pressing to spend my money on

Hi Martyn,
I've got a 1980's Russian Tank Regt that's nearly ready to rumble! Just got to finish a few bits & bobs off. It was set up to oppose my Brit Bde & has T80s as the MBT. Now I've dug it out of the loft it should be finished in the next week or so.
If you're still up for a game of CWC I'll be more than happy to oblige...

I would love a game of CWC. Its quite a while since I played, so i have to remind myself of the rules. I have got mid '80s (1/300th) British with Chieftains as MBT. Let me know how many points you fancy.
I bought myself some Cheiftain bridge layers with a view to trying the contested river crossing scenario. How about giving that a try ?

Excellent!! I haven't played CWC before. I've had a couple of bashes of BKC & lots of Warmaster, so shouldn't be too bad!! I shall re-read the rule book. My lot are mid-late 80s, T80s, but I'm quite happy to class them as 72's or 64's etc until I get some models to match. The current orbat I've got is for an Armoured Regiment - you can see the numbers etc here - docs.google.com/open?id=0B4M2C1MhwKKrYjNsc0IwNkhSd0dkWkxkeUFYcW5EZwI'm flexible points-wise, I've got 6k as per above, with a few engineer bits & bobs lurking around too. Let me know how many you fancy, and when & we'll have a royal rumble!! Cheers, Damon Edit - Hyperlink

Damon and Steven,
Steven - of course you can join in old stick... quality game !
How about the 11th March Sunday all-dayer ? A Nato counter attack contested river crossing (scenario 13 in the rulebook). I'll have a count up see how many points I have and let you know. As attacker British get twice the number of points as USSR.
Shall we say the game is set in late Summer 1985? Then we can field whatever tanks are available in the CWC army lists, so you can have your tanks as T80s if you like. I have a handful of Challenger Is which I might (or might not field) alongside my Chieftain mk IXs.

Thank you Martyn
Yes that would suit me and i like the game scenario putting Nato on the counter. In 1985 the Armoured Regs were converting to Challanger 1 so it was quite common to find mixed commands. I love the Chieftan and it would / should be able to stand up to T80's!

Excellent!! Sounds good to me too!! If required I have a few Brit units - althouugh mine are all Chally 2's - I went for a year 2000 force as that's the year I left the army!! I do have warriors, 432-M's etc... But if you need any Martyn please feel free - I'll stick a list online shortly.

Ooh - quick question, how are yours organised? I've gone for 1 model = 1 tank etc, but I know that 1 model = 1 Pln/Troop is also common - I'm easy either way as mine'll scale up quite well too. Just means instead of regiments we could field brigades!!! Just a thought... ;D D

Hi Martyn, I hope it doesn't spoil your plans but I am fairly sure we have moved the March Sunday to the 18th to make room for a Christening, I will double check with Pete and make sure it goes on the forum.

Thanks Terry.
OK chaps, Sunday 18th March it is, then.
Damon, I 'm pretty sure that CWC represents a single tank model as a troop; hence you can sustain several hits per model per turn without brewing up. Again, the rules are not hung up on formal unit organization, but allows you, within the constraints of the lists, to build an all arms battle group up to the agreed points value. If I remember correctly 3,000 will get you a roughly brigade sized BG.
My infantry are based with their 432s as when I originally did them I was going to use Modern Spearhead.
I have more than enough armour, thanks Damon, but would possibly be interested in any British infantry you might have, that may be where there are shortages. On the other hand... as with real generals we may just have to attempt the mission with whatever forces we have to hand !
I like your quote from general Sedgewick by the way. I visited Spotsylvania in 1996 and saw his monument, was disappointed that it wasn't in the shape of an elephant !!
